GRANTHAM, PA. - The Messiah men's volleyball team swept the Wilkes Colonels 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-19) to start off the conference schedule at 1-0. The Falcons had a balanced attack on offense, with five players reaching the seven kill mark. The Falcons also hit an impressive .525 in the match.
The win takes the #7 ranked Falcons to 11-2 and will travel to Penn State Altoona on February 22, for their next match.
On the Court
Messiah took early command in the first set as they built up a 20-13 advantage. A Wilkes timeout didn't help as Messiah would go on to take the set 25-17. In the second set, Wilkes hung around as the score was 10-10 until the Falcons jumped ahead rather quickly. Similar to the first, Messiah found themselves ahead 20-13 and closed out that set to go up 2-0, winning the second 25-19. The first two sets saw a combined three tied scores and zero lead changes.
The third set saw some new faces in the lineup but the results remained the same. While the set would have 11 tie scores and six lead changes, the Falcons continued to record kill after kill as they took the third set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
In the Box
The Falcons hit an impressive .525 in the match with 39 kills.
Mason Nissley led the team in kills with eight while
Zac Barbato,
Nate Bowman,
Jacob Hamm and
Adam Casper each added seven kills.
Matt Knab had a team high 37 assists on the afternoon.

The Falcons improve to 11-2 and 1-0 in the conference. Messiah will travel to Altoona, Pa. to face Penn State Altoona on February 22. That match will start at 7:00 PM.
