Second Half Surge Not Enough, Falcons Fall by One

NASHVILLE, TN. - The Messiah men's lacrosse team traveled down to Nashville on the back end of Spring Break to take on Sewanee this evening. The Falcons out scored the Tigers 5-3 in the second half but could not overcome the first half deficit as the Falcons lost 8-7. Zach Drake, Aaron Shaw and Dean Gillette all scored twice in the game. 

The Falcons are back in action on March 15, when they face Elizabethtown College at 7:00 PM.

On the Field
The Falcons fell into an early hole after the first quarter of play, getting shutout on the offensive end and allowing three goals. Sewanee tacked on two more goals to tae a 5-0 lead before Messiah finally got on the board in the second quarter with a goal from Zach Drake with just under six minutes to play in the half. Drake would strike again as the Falcons took a 5-2 deficit into the break.

The Falcons would outscore Sewanee in the second half with five goals but the Tigers added three to take the game 8-7. Aaron Shaw and Dean Gillette each scored twice in the second half, while Ben Ferrell added one goal.

With the loss, the Falcons move to 4-2 on the season and will travel to Elizabethtown on March 15 to face the Blue Jays at 7:00 PM.
