Drake's Late Game Heroics Push Falcons to Thrilling Win in Overtime

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA. - In a game with multiple lead changes, the Messiah men's lacrosse team won a thriller in Elizabethtown, beating the Blue Jays in an exciting 11-10 overtime win. Zach Drake's late game heroics on a game-winning wrap around goal in overtime put the Falcons ahead for good for their fifth win of the season.

Ben Ferrell and Zach Drake each had three goals in the contest while Chad Teresky added two. It was also Teresky's goal that sent the game to overtime late in the fourth quarter.

The Falcons will travel to Grove City to take on the Wolverines on Saturday, March 18, at 3:00 PM.

Entertaining First Half
There were a flurry of goals in the early going of the game, as the Falcons took a 2-1 lead off of goals from Aaron Shaw and Zach Drake. Ben Ferrell added one more goal in the quarter for the Falcons but the Blue Jays answered and took the lead heading into the second period.

Elizabethtown added another goal to make the deficit two but Messiah crawled back and evened up the game heading into halftime. Another Zach Drake goal as well as a Ben Ferrell goal on a man-up opportunity tied the score at 5-5 at the break.

Even More Entertaining Second Half
The second was just as entertaining as the first, if not more. The Blue Jays tacked on two goals in the third to take a 7-6 lead headed into the final stanza. With just under eight minutes to go in the fourth the Falcons had added three goals to hold a 9-8 advantage. Ferrell, Teresky and Berg were the scorers for the Falcons in the fourth.

That lead held until under five to go until the Blue Jays tied it up. Elizabethtown would score the go-ahead goal with 1:54 to go as the Falcons attempted to rally in the final minute of action. They did, with a wrap around goal from Chad Teresky to even it up at 10 all. After an attempt to go ahead from Elizabethtown, the game was headed to overtime.

A Ricky Pokrivka face-off win set up the Falcons on offense as a Dan Carson timeout halted action early in the additional period. A play drawn up for Zach Drake put the game on ice as Drake ran around the goal and fired a shot that found the back of net, ending the game. It was Drake's third goal of the contest and could not have come at a better time.

Up Next
