Falcons Compete Well at Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Members of the Messiah Track and Field team began the Outdoor season Friday night at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge following their Spring Break service trip in North Carolina. Competition concluded Saturday with a number of top-ten finishes.
 
The Falcons will next be in action on Saturday March 25th, when they compete at the Ursinus College Invitational.
 
Friday Update
Natalie Hamlen finished the Long Jump with a mark of 4.46 meters.
 
Claire Miller ran a new personal best in the 100 Meter Hurdle prelims and earned a place in Saturday's final after finishing in a time of 16.25.
 
Derek Heisey kicked off the day for the Men, competing in the 100 Meter Dash. He crossed the line in a time of 11.74.
 
The team of John Condon, Louka Fetter, Zeke Colyer, and Nathaniel Coggins earned a third-place finish in the 4x800 Meter Realy, combining for a time of 8:14.08.
 
Friday night concluded with the 5000 Meter Run. Lance Kauffman ran a time of 16:48.88 in the season opener, just missing his personal best of 16:48.62.
 
Saturday Update
Claire Miller advanced to the 100 Meter Hurdle final after her performance Friday night. In the final, she turned in a time of 16.38 to earn sixth place.
 
In the Men's Triple Jump, Brendan Provan started the season with a leap of 13.97 meters to earn third. Elena Vargas earned an eighth-place finish in the Women's Triple Jump with a mark of 10.74.
 
Josh Bauman earned fourth place in the 3000 Meter Run, crossing the line in a time of 9:11.42.
 
Derek Heisey highlighted the Falcon efforts in the 400 Hurdles, finishing in a time of 55.98 to earn third. Natalie Hamlen (1:14.25) and Claire Miller (1:15.00) also competed in the 400 Hurdles.
 
In the throws, Natalie Hamlen finished Shot Put with a mark of 9.37. Liam McGovern ended the day with a distance of 33.73 in the Discus.
 
Vargas ran the 200 Meter Dash in a time of 26.90.
 
Adam Handwerk ran the 400 Meter Dash and finished in a time of 59.51.
 
The meet concluded with the 4x400 Meter Relay events. Miller, Hamlen, Julia Rickard, and Vargas combined for a final time of 4:24.40. The team of Nathaniel Coggins, Zeke Colyer, Louka Fetter, and John Condon combined for a time of 3:35.87.
 
The Falcons will next be in action on Saturday March 25th, when they compete at the Ursinus College Invitational.
