Colorado Trip Ends with Low-Scoring Win over Cardinals

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The No. 14 Messiah women's lacrosse team earned a 9-7 victory over the St. John Fisher Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon to conclude their Colorado trip with a pair of victories. With the victory, the Falcons move to 4-1 on the season and will now return to the east coast to take on the Christopher Newport Captains on Mar. 18 at 12:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Falcons were led by Rachel Delate's four points, scoring two goals and adding two assists. Makenzie Schnur netted three goals while Hannah Gawne put two in the back of the cage as the Falcons knocked off another tam receiving votes in the National Poll.

How It Happened
The Falcons and Cardinals traded goals throughout the early portion of Wednesday's game. Both teams scored in the first two minutes of the contest and the final two minutes of the first quarter with Makenzie Schnur netting both opening period tallies for the Falcons.

The Cardinals were on the board first in the second, but Messiah rattled off three-straight scores with goals from Schnur, Rachel Delate, and Hannah Gawne to take a 5-3 lead midway through the second quarter. St. John Fisher scored the final two goals of the period to tie the game at 5-5, heading into the half.

Messiah held the Cardinals scoreless in the third period while scoring three goals to build an 8-5 lead heading to the final period. Addyson Wagman, Rachel Delate, and Hannah Gawne each tallied in the quarter as the Falcons jumped out in front.

While St. John Fisher scored twice in the fourth, Messiah's three goal lead held up as Emma Lytle added an insurance goal to give Messiah the 9-7 victory. In the final 30 minutes of play, Messiah's defense stepped up allowing just those two fourth-quarter goals.

What's Up Next
The Falcons will return to the east coast later this week and will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 17 when they travel to Newport News, Va. to take on the Christopher Newport Captains at 12:00 p.m.
