High-Scoring Opening Half Leads Falcons Past Dutchmen

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 11 Messiah women's lacrosse team scored early and often en route to a 20-6 victory over the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen on Senior Day. The Falcons scored seven goals in both the first and second quarters to build a 14-2 lead at the break. Rachel Delate and Hope Flack led the Falcons offensively, both finishing with five goals in the contest. Delate also added a pair of assists while Flack picked up one assist.

With the victory, Messiah moves to 10-2 on the season and advances to 3-1 in the MAC Commonwealth. The Falcons will be back in action on Wednesday, Apr. 19 when they travel to Stevenson to take on the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m.

How It Happened
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first five goals of the contest. Hope Flack tallied the first two goals before Hayley Lettinga, Rachel Delate, and Makenzie Schnur found the back of the cage in the first 7:30. The tally from Schnur might have been the best of the afternoon, as she navigated her way through traffic to put Messiah up 5-0.

After Veronica Venezia scored for Lebanon Valley to get the Dutchmen on the board, Messiah connected on the next five goals to take a 10-1 lead. Emma Lytle led the five-goal run with a pair of tallies, including the final score of the opening quarter. Lebanon Valley scored, but the Falcons went up 14-2 at the half by scoring the final four goals of the second quarter. Lytle led the Falcons with two goals late in the quarter. Messiah continued the run with four-straight goals to begin the third quarter, building an 18-2 lead.

With the game well in hand, Lebanon Valley scored four of the final six goals to end the game with a final score of 20-6 in favor of the Falcons.

What's Up Next
As mentioned, Messiah advances to 10-2 on the season and 3-1 in the conference this year. The Falcons will take on the Stevenson Mustangs on Wednesday night on the road at 7:00 p.m.
