GRANTHAM, PA. – The Messiah women's tennis team had a relatively easy day on the courts this afternoon as they breezed past the Hood College Blazers 9-0. Every court was in hand with the exception of
Kasi Conjack on court one, who prevailed in the most exciting match of the afternoon, winning in a third set super tiebreak thriller.
The Falcons will be on the road for their final match of the regular season when they travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Albright College Lions on April 22, at 1:00 PM.
On Criste Courts
Before the match, the seniors were honored in a pre-match celebration, which undergird the Falcons heading into the match, putting the momentum on their side. The Falcons ran through courts two and three, only dropping one game each in those victories. On court two it was Sheaffer/Walker and on court three it was Tozzi/Lee with the 8-1 wins.
The team of Conjack/Heckman on court one also pulled away late for an 8-4 win as the Falcons took a 3-0 lead into singles.
Singles
It was more of the same for the Falcons in singles play, operating at cruise control on most courts. No. 2
Kylie Walker won 6-1, 6-1 while
Isabella Heckman didn't drop a game in her 6-0, 6-0 dominant performance on court three.
Courts five and six got in on it as well, with senior day honoree
Nicole Lee winning 6-2, 6-1 on court five.
Angela Tozzi only dropped a game in her convincing 6-1, 6-0 win on court six.
Later on court four,
Rebekah Sheaffer rallied from being down 5-4 in the first set to force a set tiebreak she would win 7-1. Sheaffer would close out the second set 6-2 for the 7-6(1), 6-2 win.
Then, it was the marathon match of the day on court one with
Kasi Conjack duking it out with Hood's Katie Cautero. Evenly matched, it was Cautero taking the first set 6-4 to take an early advantage. Conjack answered with a 6-4 set win of her own to force a third set super tiebreak in lieu of the third set. It didn't just end there.
A microcosm of the entire match, the tiebreak was neck and neck with Conjack and Cautero trading blows before Cautero picked up a lead late in the tiebreak. Conjack fought off multiple match points to force a changeover at 9-9. Trading points once again, it was Conjack who eked out the tiebreak 12-10 for the 4-6, 6-4, (12-10) win.
