GRANTHAM, PA. - On an eighty degree day at Criste Courts, the Messiah women's tennis team took on conference opponent York College in a battle that would remain close until the final minutes of the afternoon. Battling it out on every court, the Spartans knocked the Falcons off 6-3 to hand Messiah their first conference loss of the season.
Messiah got wins from Sheaffer/Walker in doubles and got singles wins from Walker and Heckman for the three points.
The Falcons will take the long weekend off and prepare for another conference opponents in the Stevenson Mustangs. That match is set for Wednesday, April 12 at 3:30 PM in Owings Mills, Md.
From the Baseline
Messiah gave the Spartans all they could handle in doubles, fighting on every court in the heat of the afternoon. Tozzi/Lee fell 5-8 on court three before Conjack/Heckman lost 4-8 on court one. On court two doubles, the duo of Sheaffer/Walker rallied from a mid-set deficit to win their pro-set 8-6 to earn one point for the Falcons after doubles.
Singles
Once again, the Falcons fought with the Spartans on each court as the match was yet to be decided after the two hour mark of the match.
Angela Tozzi fell 3-6, 3-6 on court six before the reigning Conference Player of the Week
Kylie Walker won 6-3, 6-2 on court two to cut the overall deficit to 3-2 in favor of the Spartans.
Rebekah Sheaffer lost a well fought third set 6-4, 2-6, 3-6 before York would clinch the match on court one but not without a challenge in that one as well.
Kasi Conjack rallied and won the second set but would ultimately fall 2-6, 7-5, 0-6 for York's decisive fifth point of the afternoon.
Nicole Lee dropped a tough matchup against Morrissey Walsh 5-7, 6-7(0) on court five before
Isabella Heckman grinded out a long 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 victory on court three for the Falcons third and final point of the afternoon.

The loss takes the Falcons record to 4-6 overall and evens up their conference mark at 1-1. The Falcons will take a restful break and will not return to the courts until Wednesday, April 12 when they travel to Owings Mills, Md. That match against conference opponent Stevenson will begin at 3:30 PM in Maryland.
