CHESTER, PA. - The Messiah Men's basketball team fell to the No. 2 ranked MAC Commonwealth team, the Widener Pride 91-53. A large second-half run for the Pride lifted them to victory while holding the Falcons to their lowest point total of the season.
Christian Jackson led Messiah with 10 points and
Caleb Thompson added eight points and seven rebounds.
The Falcons will be on the road against Eastern University on Saturday, Jan 20th.
First Half Action
Bryce Coletti,
Caleb Lyles, and
Johnny McBride got things going early for the Falcons tying the game at 6-6 within the first four minutes of action. Two baskets later, the Falcons would find themselves leading 13-8. Over the next five minutes, the Pride would go on a 12-6 run to grab a 20-17 lead. From that point on the Falcons could not buy a basket, as Widener would continue to extend their lead due to another 9-2 run. McBride would cash in a jumper at the four-minute mark to cut the deficit to 28-21. However, the Pride would finish strong, finishing the first half up 39-25.
A Struggling Second Half
The Falcons continued to battle back to start the second half. Coletti, Lyles, and
Caleb Thompson all would find the bottom of the net as they cut the lead to 43-31 through the first four minutes of play. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Widener caught fire going on a 23-5 run over the next six minutes to take a 66-36 lead with 9:25 on the clock. From that point on it was all Widener. The Falcons could not find anything going offensively being held to their lowest point total of the season losing 91-53 on the road.
