Strong Finish Guides Women’s Basketball Past Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Messiah University women's basketball team closed out the game on a 22-9 run to propel the Falcons to a 64-48 win at Stevenson on Wednesday night. The Falcons and Mustangs played it close with the Falcons leading the Mustangs 34-26 at the half. The Mustangs closed the gap after outscoring the Falcons by three heading into the final quarter. The Mustangs hit a couple of free throws to start the fourth to put them within three, but the Falcons rattled off a 22-9 run to end the game to defeat Stevenson, 64-48. Reese Harden led the Falcons with 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Morgan Adams added another double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
 
Up next, the Falcons finish their three-game road trip at Hood College on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1:00 p.m.

First Quarter
The Falcons started the game strong with a 7-1 run that was started by a Reese Harden jumper and ended with two free throws from EmmyFaith Wood to give the Falcons an early lead with six minutes remaining in the quarter. The Mustangs responded with a 9-2 run that gave Stevenson a one-point lead with two minutes remaining in the quarter. The Falcons finished the quarter strong with a 6-0 run that was highlighted by a layup by Morgan Adams to give Messiah a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Second Quarter
The Falcons started the quarter strong with a 10-2 run that started with a layup from Reese Harden and ended with a jumper from Kiara Bomboy to give the Falcons a 13-point lead with 5:22 remaining in the half. The Mustangs continued to respond to the Falcons' runs with an 8-2 run of their own to reduce the Falcons lead to seven with just over three minutes remaining in the half. The two traded baskets to end the half, but a Hope Cook three gave the Falcons a one-point advantage in the final three minutes to give the Falcons a 34-26 lead at the half.
 
Third Quarter
The third quarter was a defensive battle, but the Mustangs were able to go on a 6-2 run in the first five minutes to reduce the Falcons lead to four. The Falcons outscored the Mustangs 6-5 to end the quarter with Reese Harden adding two more baskets to give the Falcons a 42-37 lead entering the final quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
After the Mustangs hit two free throws to reduce the Falcons lead to three, The Falcons quickly went off for an 8-1 run that was led by six points from Kiara Bomboy to push the Falcons lead up to 10. The two teams started to trade baskets before a Morgan Adams three with just over two minutes left in the game put the Falcons up by 15 to seal the win. After a couple of baskets from both teams the game finished with a 64-48 win for the Falcons.

Reese Harden led the Falcons with 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Morgan Adams added another double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Charlotte Milanesi totaled nine points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Kiara Bomboy tallied eight points, four rebounds, and four steals. The Falcons shot 41 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from three. The Mustangs shot 36.5 percent from the field and 23.1 percent from three. The Falcons defense forced 19 Mustang turnovers and the Falcons offense had an effective game having only 11 turnovers.
