READING, Pa. - The No. 14 Messiah Field Hockey team earned the 3-0 victory over the Albright Lions in the regular season finale on Saturday evening.Â
Teagan Murrie put the Falcons on the board in the first quarter with a goal on a penalty stroke. Later in the first,
Hailey Womer found the back of the cage to give Messiah the 2-0 lead to end the first quarter.
Olivia Zaskoda found a goal of her own in the second quarter to bring the Falcons lead to 3-0. Messiah took a number of shots in the second half but were unable to convert the opportunities.
The Falcons are next in action on Wednesday, November 6, when they host the Alvernia Golden Wolves for a Middle Atlantic Conference Semifinal Playoff game at 7:00 p.m. on Anderson Field.
First Quarter
The Falcons looked to continue their success against conference opponents with Saturday's game. At the 2:07 mark, Messiah was awarded a penalty stroke.
Teagan Murrie stepped up to the spot and was able to convert the penalty stroke to give Messiah a 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Messiah earned their first penalty corner of the game. Murrie fired a shot that ricocheted off the post. Only twenty seconds later,
Hailey Womer fired a shot past the Lions' goalie to bring the Falcons' lead to 2-0.
Second Quarter
Carrie Bair looked to score early in the second quarter, but the Albright goalie was able to make the save. Three minutes later,
Olivia Zaskoda was able to place a ball in the goal to bring the lead to 3-0 in favor of Messiah. Messiah earned two penalty corners and took two shots, but they were unable to convert, and the score remained 3-0 heading into halftime.
Third Quarter
In the first five minutes of the second half, Messiah fired off three shots.
Aubrey Clark and
Leah Bryner both missed just wide before the Albright goalie made a save on Bryner's second shot. Messiah picked up two penalty corners in the final three minutes, but both shots taken were blocked.
Fourth Quarter
Messiah earned a penalty corner with just over seven minutes to play.
Ellie Lefever fired off a shot, but it was blocked. The Falcons took two more shots that missed just wide. The Falcons wrapped up action with two more penalty corners that did not result in a shot.
