GRANTHAM, PA. – The Messiah mens volleyball team swept past the Monarchs of Kings College Pa 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-13) in this early MAC showdown. The Falcons offense proved to be too much for the Monarchs causing little contest throughout the match.
Alex Kagoro finished the game with 13 kills and 18.5 points, while teammates
Ryan Givens (12) and
Jacob Hamm (11) were not far behind. Brandon sharp tallied 23 assists and four digs on the night, and
Noah Aurdos put together 19 assists and seven digs. Conor Stauffer was also stout from the back line picking up 10 digs.
The Falcons will in action Thursday Feb 29
th against the Hood College Blazers.
How it Happened
Set One
The Monarchs caused an early scare for the Falcons getting out to a quick 8-4 lead. Three straight kills from
Alex Kagoro shifted the tide for the Falcons cutting the deficit to 8-7.
Ryan Givens started to get it going, putting down two kills over the next four points to grab a 11-10 lead. Messiah went on a 10-6 run led by four Givens kills, two from Kagoro and a
Jake Eby kill to extend their lead to 20-16. The Falcons would go on to win the set 25-19 taking a 1-0 match lead.
Set Two
The Falcons turned the tables to start set two taking a 8-4 lead, thanks to a couple Monarch errors along with points from
Conner Stauffer and Givens. Over the next couple of points the Monarchs managed to keep it close, trailing 14-11 through the midway mark of set two. However, the Falcons found another groove continuing to dominate at the net going on an 8-5 run to take a 22-16 lead. Two Hamm kills and a Monarch error would close out the set 25-20 for the Falcons.
Set Three
The third set was an all-around dominate performance from the Falcons from start to finish. Messiah jumped out to an early 10-5 advantage and never looked back. The Falcons defense would hold Kings College to 13 total points over the final set as they made quick work of the Monarchs 25-13, prevailing them to a 3-0 match victory over a top MAC opponent.
