Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Defensive Battle Against Diplomats

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Messiah University men's lacrosse team dropped their first game of the 2024 season with a 12-5 loss to the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats on Wednesday evening. The Falcons trailed by one after the first quarter, but the Diplomats scored two late goals in the second quarter to jump to a 6-3 lead at the half. The Diplomats controlled the third quarter with three quick goals and shutdown defense to push their lead to six entering the final quarter. The Falcons were able to score a couple goals in the fourth but were not able to get a run going and fell 12-5. Chad Teresky led the Falcons offense with three points on a goal and two assists. Jourdain Algarin earned the start in the cage for the Falcons and made 22 saves, which is tied for the fourth most in program history in a single game.
 
Up Next, the Falcons travel to Hoboken, N.J. to take on the Stevens Ducks on Saturday, March 2 at 4:00 p.m.
 
First Quarter
The Falcons opened the scoring with a Chad Teresky goal with just under 12 minutes remaining in the second quarter. The Diplomats then answered with two unanswered goals to give them a 2-1 lead with six minutes remaining in the quarter. The Falcons answered back just a minute later with a goal from Jesse Lynch from RJ Mellor to tie the game at two. With under a minute to go in the quarter, the Diplomats retook the lead with a goal to put the score at 3-2 after the first quarter.
 
Second Quarter
The Diplomats opened the second quarter with a goal to increase their lead to 4-2. After some tough defense from both sides, Bobby Berg scored a goal for the Falcons from Chad Teresky to put the Falcons within one with 5:39 remaining in the half. The Diplomats scored two goals in the final minute to take a 6-3 lead entering the half.   
 
Third Quarter
The Diplomats controlled the beginning of the third quarter with three straight goals to jump to a 9-3 lead with 12:20 remaining in the third quarter. The Falcons rattled off eight shots in the final eight minutes, but all of the shots were saved by the Diplomat goalkeeper to keep the score at 9-3 headed into the final quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth quarter with a goal from Jesse Lynch to reduce the Diplomats lead to five. The Diplomats then scored two straight goals to increase their lead to 11-4 with 12:27 remaining in the game. The Falcons then looked for a comeback with a man-up goal from Owen Hammel from Chad Teresky to put the Falcons down six with 11:12 remaining in the game. Both defenses were strong to finish the game, but the Diplomats added a goal in the final minute to give them a 12-5 win.

Chad Teresky led the Falcons with three points on a goal and two assists. Jesse Lynch scored two goals. Walker Penchansky led the Falcons with three caused turnovers and two ground balls. David Gross and Nate Jaloszynski each finished with two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Tristan Lynch and Bradley Simons each won two faceoffs. Jourdain Algarin earned the start in the cage for the Falcons and made 22 saves, which is tied for the fourth most in program history in a single game.
