Fourth Quarter Run Propels Seahawks Past Falcons

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Messiah University men's lacrosse team fell to St. Mary's 19-15 after the Seahawks rallied for seven straight goals in the fourth quarter. The Falcons and Seahawks were tied at five after the first quarter. The Falcons outscored the Seahawks by two in the second quarter to jump to a 9-7 lead at the half. After the Falcons jumped to a 13-8 lead in the third, the Seahawks rallied to outscore the Falcons 4-1in the final nine minutes to reduce the Falcons lead back to two headed into the final quarter. After the Falcons opened the fourth with a goal, the Seahawks rallied again this time for seven straight goals to give them a 19-15 win. Chad Teresky led the Falcons with eight points on six goals and two assists Bobby Berg tallied six goals.
 
Up next, the Falcons host the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College on Thursday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m.
 
First Quarter
The Seahawks got on the board early with a goal in the first minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Falcons answered back with a three-goal run that was led by two goals from Chad Teresky to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead with 7:48 remaining in the first. After Seahawk goal cut the Falcons lead to one, the Falcons then added a goal from Bobby Berg by RJ Mellor to push the Falcons lead back to two. The Seahawks then scored two straight goals to tie the game with 1:47 remaining in the first. Mike McKnelly then scored a goal from Owen Hammel to give the Falcons a one goal lead with 47 seconds remaining. St. Mary's tied the game with 29 seconds remaining to put the score at 5-5 at the end of the first.
 
Second Quarter
The Falcons opened the second quarter with a goal from Chad Teresky in the first two minutes to give the Falcons the lead with 13:33 remaining in the second quarter. After the Seahawks tied the game, the Falcons went on a 3-0 run that was capped off by two Bobby Berg goals in seven seconds to give the Falcons a 9-6 lead with 4:10 remaining the half. The Seahawks closed the half with a goal in the final two minutes to put the score at 9-7 at the half with the Falcons ahead.
 
Third Quarter
In the first minute of the second half, Chad Teresky added another goal to push the Falcons lead back to three. After a Seahawk goal, the Falcons added another 3-0 run that started with a Chad Teresky goal and ended with two Bobby Berg goals to push the Falcons lead to 13-8 with 9:40 remaining in the third. The Seahawks would not go away and scored four straight goals to reduce the Falcons lead to one with just under three minutes remaining in the third. The Falcons though, added a goal from Mike McKnelly to push their lead back to 14-12 headed into the final quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth with a goal from Bobby Berg from Mike McKnelly to give the Falcons a 15-12 lead with 11:36 remaining in the game. The Seahawks though rattled off seven straight goals to give St. Mary's a 19-15 win.
 
Stats
Chad Teresky led the Falcons with eight points on six goals and two assists Bobby Berg tallied six goals. Mike McKnelly totaled three points on two goals and an assist. Tristan Lynch led the Falcons defense with a caused turnover and four ground balls. Ben Antel won 13 faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls. Jourdain Algarin started the game in the game for the Falcons and made one save. Brock Roe played most of the game in the cage and made seven saves. Josh Grove also earned time in net and made two saves.
