GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah University softball team used a one-hit complete game shutout from
Lydia Collison to win game one 6-0 and then slugged their way to a 7-5 win in game two. The Falcons in game one took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. After two scoreless innings, the Falcons rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to four. The Falcons put the finishing touches on the win with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 6-0.
Lydia Collison was dominant in the circle for the Falcons throwing a complete game one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.
Hannah Dyer led the Falcons with two hits and a run.
Kandice Schlabach led the Falcons with two RBIs and recorded a hit.
In game two the Green Terror jumped to an early 1-0 lead, but the Falcons responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth that was led by a two-run homerun from
McKenzie Shannon to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead. The Falcons added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but in the top of the fifth the Green Terror scored four runs to reduce the Falcons lead to two.
Maggie Chinnadurai had three shutout innings to close out the game and gave the Falcons a sweep with a 7-5 win.
Kandice Schlabach and
Ali Wagner led the Falcons offense with three hits each. Wagner also added three RBIs.
McKenzie Shannon hit a big two-run home run.
Hannah Dyer and
Rebekah Wiley led the Falcons with two runs each.
Up next, the Falcons travel to St. Davids, Pa. to take on the Eagles of Eastern University for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
Game One – Messiah 4, McDaniel 0
After the Falcons and
Lydia Collison got the Green Terror to go down in order in the top of the first, the Falcons looked to score early in the bottom half.
Alexa Burger led off the game reaching on an error. Burger stole second and then advanced to third on a ground out.
McKenzie Shannon then flied out to center and Burger came home and scored to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead after the first.
After the second and third innings were scoreless, The Falcons got into a jam in the top of the fourth.
Lydia Collison escaped the first and second jam with a foul out and a pop up to get the Falcons to plate still leading by one. The Falcons looked to extend their lead in the bottom half.
Hannah Dyer led off the inning with a single, but after a fielder's choice,
McKenzie Shannon stood on first.
Jaden Keister then singled to put runners on first and second with one out.
Allie Book then singled up the middle, scoring Shannon and Advancing Keister to third to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
Allie Book then stole second and after a Green Terror error, Keister scored, and Book advanced to third. Then
Kandice Schlabach hit an RBI single through the left side putting the Falcons up 4-0 after four innings.
After a scoreless fifth, and another dominant inning from
Lydia Collison in the top of the sixth, the Falcons looked to add to their four-run lead.
Hannah Dyer led off the bottom of the sixth with a triple.
McKenzie Shannon then reached first on a Green Terror error and Dyer scored on the play.
Jaden Keister then reached on an error, putting runners on first and second with no outs.
Allie Book reached on a fielder's choice with Shannon advancing to third. Book then stole second and then
Kandice Schlabach hit a sac fly to right scoring Shannon to push the Falcons lead to 6-0 headed to the top of the seventh.
Lydia Collison then got the Green Terror to go down in order in the top of the seventh to complete her one-hit shutout and the Falcons 6-0 win.

Game Two – Messiah 7, McDaniel 5
In the top of the first,
Fallon Feaser worked around a leadoff single to pitch a scoreless first. In the bottom of the first the Falcons reached base with two hit by pitches, but the Falcons could not get the key hit and the game remained scoreless after one.
The Green Terror took a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the top of the second. The Falcons looked to respond with a one-out single from
Ali Wagner. After Wagner advanced to second on a passed ball,
Elianna Litwin walked to put runners on first and second with one out. The Falcons once again did not get the big hit and game remained 1-0 McDaniel after two.
Fallon Feaser got the Green Terror to go down in order in the top of the third and the Falcons looked to get their offense going.
Hannah Dyer led the inning off with a bunt single and then stole third.
McKenzie Shannon then hit a big two-run home run to left to put the Falcons up 2-1.
Kandice Schlabach then singled and after a groundout that advanced her to second,
Rebekah Wiley hit a single down the right field line to put runners on the corners with one out. Wiley then stole second and then
Ali Wagner hit a two-RBI single to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead headed into the fourth.
Feaser made quick work of the Green Terror in the top of the fourth and then the Falcons looked to increase their lead even more.
Hannah Dyer led off the bottom of the fourth with a hit by pitch and then stole second. After a pop out
Kandice Schlabach hit a single to third base to put runners on the corner with one out. After the Green Terror caught a Falcon stealing second,
Allie Book hit a double to right center that scored Dyer.
Rebekah Wiley then traded places with Book, also doubling to right center to put the Falcons up by six. Then
Ali Wagner singled up the middle, scoring Wiley to give the Falcons a 7-0 lead through four.
The Green Terror though responded with four runs on four hits and a Falcons error to close the gap to 7-5.
Both teams would pose threats, but good pitching from
Maggie Chinnadurai in the end helped the Falcons prevent anymore Green Terror runs and the Falcons completed the sweep with a 7-5 win.
Fallon Feaser pitched four innings, allowing four runs (3 earned), on four hits, two walks, and a strikeout.
Maggie Chinnadurai was dominant out of the bullpen pitching three innings and allowing only two hits.
