Second Quarter Run Sparks Mustangs Past Falcons

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Messiah University men's lacrosse team fell to the Mustangs on Stevenson University on Saturday night. The Mustangs and Falcons played a tight first quarter with the Mustangs leading 5-3. The Mustangs broke open the game in the second quarter with seven unanswered goals to take a 12-3 lead into the half. The Mustangs closed out the second half outscoring the Falcons 10-3 to earn the 22-9 win. Chad Teresky led the Falcons with seven points on three goals and four assists. Mike McKnelly tallied a hat trick.

First Quarter
The Falcons opened the scoring with a Mike McKnelly goal from Chad Teresky to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead with 12:13 remaining in the first quarter. Stevenson then responded with two straight goals to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead with 6:53 remaining in the quarter. The Falcons then responded with a Bobby Berg goal from Grant Peffall to tie the game at two. The Mustangs then scored three unanswered goals in a little over a minute to take a 5-2 lead with 2:44 remaining in the first. Mike McKnelly then scored his second goal of the game from Chad Teresky to reduce the Mustang lead to 5-3 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Second Quarter
The Mustangs took control in the second quarter scoring seven unanswered goals to take a 12-3 lead headed into the half.
 
Third Quarter
The Mustangs continued the momentum and opened the second half with five straight goals to take a 17-3 lead with 7:46 remaining in the third. The Falcons then went on a 3-1 run that started with a Chad Teresky goal from Ben Antel and ended with a man-up goal from Seth Libby by Teresky. Stevenson ended the quarter with a goal with just under two minutes remaining to put the Mustangs up 19-6 headed into the final quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Mustangs opened the fourth with three straight goals to take a 22-6 lead with 5:42 remaining in the game. The Falcons closed the game with three straight goals with two goals from Chad Teresky and one by Jesse Lynch to put the final score at 22-9.
 
Stats
Chad Teresky led the Falcons offense with seven points on three goals and four assists. Mike McKnelly tallied a hat trick. Grant Peffall, Walker Penchansky, and David Gross each caused a turnover. Ben Antel won five faceoffs and scooped up three ground balls. Jourdain Algarin earned the start in the cage for the Falcons and made 11 saves. Brock Roe earned time in net and made six saves. Josh Grove also earned time in the cage and made a save.
