Falcons Down York to Advance to the MAC Commonwealth Championship

GRANTHAM, Pa – The MAC Commonwealth semifinals lived up to the expectations as the Messiah Women's' tennis team got past the Spartans of York College 5-4. The Falcons took two of the three courts in doubles action and won three courts in singles play, needing the final court of the day to advance to the MAC Commonwealth championship match.

How It Happened:
Doubles:
On court two Kylie Walker / Rebekah Sheaffer swiftly defeated their opponents 8-0. Following a Court one loss, Kiara Bomboy / Jocelyn Valdez narrowly won court three despite surrendering a lead in the match to give the Falcons the 2-1 match advantage.

Singles:
The MAC Conference semifinals lived up to the hype, as the singles play between both schools needed all six courts to determine who would advance to the MAC Conference semifinals.

The Spartans captured court five from Rebekah Sheaffer as they tied the overall match at 2-2. York would go on to capture the lead on the day after a court one and six victory to take a 4-2 lead in the matches.

However, with their backs against the wall the Falcons pulled through. Bella Heckman picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win on court four to cut the Spartans match lead too 4-3. Kiara Bomboys court would turn the tide for Messiah as she lost set one 6-1, but went on to win set two 6-4, and set three 6-4 tying the matches at 4-4.

Coming down the stretch, Kylie Walkers court would decide who advanced to the MAC Commonwealth Championship. After an exciting 7-6 (8-6) set one win, she would drop set two 7-5. However, in the fairy tale ending Walker came through for Messiah and picked up the 6-2 set three win, clinching a spot in the conference championship match.

What's Up Next:
Messiah will now travel to Albright College to take on the No.1 seed Lions, Saturday May 4th for the title of MAC Commonwealth champion.
