GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Messiah women's soccer team used a dominant effort to defeat the thirteenth-ranked Green Terror of McDaniel College, 2-0. The Falcons dominated procession in the first half and scored their first goal in the 24th minute.
Bailie Dull sent a ball into the box and
Hannah Adair headed it into the back of the net to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons added a goal just six minutes into the second half from a
Kaitlyn Laird volley to give Messiah a 2-0 lead. The Falcons defense shut down the Green Terror offense the whole game holding their offense to only two shots.
Up next, the Falcons begin a five-game road trip against the Herons of William Smith College on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11:00 a.m.
First Half
The Falcons offense started the game strong with chance after chance.
Kristina Akselsen started the offense output with a shot into the top left corner, but the shot was saved by the McDaniel goalkeeper. After a couple of shots were saved from
Brittany Laird and Juilia Martin, the Falcons looked to get a shot past the Green Terror goalkeeper in the 24th minute. After a failed clear attempt from a McDaniel defender,
Tahlia Lloyd gathered the ball and sent it back to
Bailie Dull. Dull sent a long pass into the box, where
Hannah Adair headed the pass into the back of the net to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons offense continued to put the pressure on the McDaniel defense, but it was the Messiah defense that shut down the Green Terror offense, allowing zero shots.
Second Half
The Falcons offense did not take long to get going after the half. Just six minutes in, after a hand ball was not called on a
Kristina Akselsen pass just outside the box, the Falcons retained possession and
Thea Neimond sent a cross into the box.
Mia Libby got a head on it and it popped over to
Kaitlyn Laird, who hit a volley shot that went into the bottom-right corner to push the Falcons lead to 2-0. The rest of the game the Falcons continued to control possession and had a couple of great opportunities on
Ella Arace and
Mia Libby shots, but they were both saved.

Bailie Dull and
Mia Libby each totaled an assist. The Falcons finished with 22 shots with nine shots on goal. The Green Terror totaled two shots with one shot on goal. The Falcons earned all six corner kicks in the game.
Ava Wert earned the win in goal with a save.
