Women’s Soccer Falls at William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Messiah University women's soccer team fell to William Smith 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. After a scoreless first half, the Herons got on the board with a goal in the 61st minute to give the Herons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons had a chance to tie the game in the 68th minute, but an Addi Martin shot was saved by the Herons goalkeeper to keep the Falcons off the board. The Herons defense only allowed a blocked shot the rest of the game to hold on to their 1-0 win.

Up next, the Falcons travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Lions of Penn St. Berks on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
 
First Half
The Falcons got the offense going in the first 10 minutes with a shot from Kristina Akselsen, but the shot was saved by the Herons goalkeeper to keep the game scoreless. The Herons lone shot on goal was in the 15th minute and Ava Wert came up with the save on the shot. Addi Martin totaled three shots on goal in the final 15 minutes of the first half, but each shot was saved by the Herons goalkeeper to keep the game scoreless headed into the break.
 
Second Half
After a wide shot from the Falcons, the Herons went on the counterattack in the 61st minute. The Herons went all the way down the field and sent a cross into the box and the ball was headed in by a Herons forward to give William Smith a 1-0 lead. The Falcons looked to answer the goal in the 68th minute. Addi Martin sent a shot towards the top-left corner, but the shot was saved by the Herons goalkeeper to keep the William Smith 1-0 lead. Both defenses locked in the rest of the game, as a Falcons blocked shot was the only shot in the last 22 minutes.
