SHIPPENSBURG, PA. – The Messiah women's tennis team drops a tough match to Shippensburg University to begin the 2024-2025 season. The Falcons lost to the Raiders 5-2 in a division two format, where you win one point for doubles courts. The lone court winners for the Falcons came in singles action. Kiara Bomboy took both sets on court one, while Kylie Walker won a nail bitter on court two.
 
Up Next: The Falcons will be home Wednesday, Sept. 18 against Goucher College.
 
Doubles: 2-1 Shippensburg
 
To begin the day, the Raiders were able to take two out of the three doubles courts to secure one point heading into singles action. Kylie Walker and Isabella Heckman took court one from the Raiders 6-4. However, courts two and three were won by the Raiders.
 
Singles: 4-2 Shippensburg
 
Down one point, the Falcons were able to shift the tide winning the first two courts of singles action. Kiara Bomboy defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-1. Kylie Walker followed up her teammate with an 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 court two victory, giving the Falcons an 2-1-point advantage.
 
However, the rest of the Falcons were unable to secure a win despite battling on every court. Heckman took an early 6-1 set win, but her opponent took the next two sets to win court three for the Raiders. Jocelyn Valdez suffered a pair of 6-1 losses on court four, while on court five Isabella Ipri forced a 6-7(3) tie breaker on set one but would ultimately drop the court a set later. The Raiders would close out the day with a court six three set victory over Falcon Katelyn Good, giving Shippensburg the 5-2 win.
