GRANTHAM, Pa – On Wednesday evening, the Messiah University women's basketball rolled past the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University, 71-24. The Falcons opened the game strong with a 16-3 lead after the first quarter. The Falcons continued roll with a 16-8 advantage in the second quarter to give the Falcons a 32-11 lead at the half. The Falcons outscored the Golden Wolves 20-7 in the third to extend their lead to 52-18 heading into the final quarter. The Falcons put the finishing touches on the win outscoring the Golden Wolves by 13 in the fourth to win 71-24.
Liv Monturo led the Falcons with 16 points, three steals, and two rebounds.
Hope Cook totaled 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Reese Harden added eight points, five assists, two rebounds, and two steals.
Up next, the Falcons travel to York, Pa. to take on the Spartans of York College on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1:00 p.m.
First Quarter
The Falcons opened the game strong with a 12-0 that went for the first seven minutes of the game.
Reese Harden led the Falcons with six points during the run and
Liv Monturo added four points. The Falcons then outscored the Golden Wolves 4-3 to close the first quarter with a 16-3 lead. Monturo capped off the strong first quarter for the Falcons with four straight points.
Second Quarter
The Falcons continued to roll in the opening four minutes of the second quarter with a 7-0 run to extend the Falcons lead to 20. The run was highlighted by a
Charlotte Milanesi three. Each team then traded baskets for the next five minutes with
Liv Monturo,
Sydney Hoffman, and
Raegan Fogarty scoring for the Falcons. Before the half ended though,
Chloe Milanesi hit a three at the buzzer to give the Falcons a commanding 32-11 lead at the half.
Third Quarter
The Falcons opened the third with a 10-2 run to push the Falcons lead to 42-13 with five minutes remaining in the third. After the Golden Wolves went on a quick 5-2 run, the Falcons ended the third with a 8-0 run to give the Falcons a 52-18 lead heading into the final quarter.
Justine Forbes led the Falcons with five points and
Hope Cook added a three for Messiah during the run.
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons continued to pour it on starting the fourth. The Falcons pushed their lead to 42 with a 12-4 run. The Falcons scored all 12 points on threes with
Hope Cook knocking down three and
EmmyFaith Wood adding a three. The Falcons capped off the win with a 7-2 run to earn the dominant 71-24 win.
