No. 4 Women’s Soccer Drops Tight Battle to Lions

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Tuesday evening, the fourth-ranked Messiah University women's soccer team fell to the Lions of Penn St. Harrisburg, 1-0. The Falcons controlled most of the possession in the first half, but the Lions broke the scoreless tie in the 44th minute on a penalty kick goal. The Falcons had a flurry of opportunities in the second half, but the Lions goalkeeper made three key saves for the Lions to earn the 1-0 win.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Lions of Albright College at 4:00 p.m.
 
First Half
After some back-and-forth play, Addi Martin got a couple of shots on goal, but each shot was saved by the Lions' goalkeeper and game remained tied in the 19th minute. The Falcons got their next best chance in the 33rd minute. Addi Martin got a shot on goal that bounced off the Lions' goalkeepers' hands and looked to headed into the goal, but Lions' goalkeeper grabbed the ball just before it crossed the line to keep the game scoreless. The Lions then went on the attack and got a shot on goal in the 34th minute, but Ava Wert made the game to keep the game tied. The Lions got on the board in the 44th minute after a foul in the box led to a penalty kick goal for the Lions to give Penn St. Harrisburg a 1-0 lead at the half.  
 
Second Half
The Lions kept the momentum going in the second half with a shot on goal, but Ava Wert made the save to keep the score at 1-0 in the 48th minute. The Falcons got the first chance in the 63rd minute with a shot on goal from Alayna Williams, but the Lions goalkeeper made the save to keep the score at 1-0. The Falcons continued to put the pressure on the Lions in the 83rd minute. Nikki Davis got a great chance on goal, but the Lions' goalkeeper made the save, but the Falcons earned a corner kick off the save. On the corner, Hannah Adair sent a great ball into the box and Ella Lent-Koop headed the ball towards the bottom-right corner, but the Lions' goalkeeper made an incredible diving save to keep the Falcons off the board. The Falcons got a pair of shots off in the final six minutes, but none were on goal, and the Lions earned the 1-0 win.
 
Stats
The Falcons totaled 19 shots with six shots on goal. The Lions tallied five shots with three shots on goal. The Falcons earned all seven corner kicks in the game. Ava Wert earned the start in goal for the Falcons and made two saves.
