Women’s Basketball Drops Road Matchup at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – On Wednesday evening, the Messiah University women's basketball team dropped a road contest against the Red Devils of Dickinson College, 78-57. The Falcons started the game strong, but the Red Devils ended the first quarter with a 9-0 run to take a three-point lead at the end of the first. The Red Devils put together multiple runs in the second to take a 40-24 lead at the half. The Red Devils continued control of the game in the third and took a 65-36 lead into the fourth. The Falcons outscored the Red Devils by eight in the fourth, but the Red Devils earned the 78-57 win. Liv Monturo led the Falcons with 20 points and five rebounds. April Kauffeldt posted a career-high 12 point and six rebounds. Hope Cook added nine points and three assists.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Middletown, Pa. to take on the Lions of Penn St. Harrisburg on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 8:00 p.m.
 
First Quarter
The Falcons started the game strong with an 8-2 run in the first three minutes. EmmyFaith Wood started the scoring with a layup and Liv Monturo ended the run with a layup of her own. After two straight Red Devil baskets, the Falcons responded with two straight baskets of their own with Monturo and Charlotte Milanesi each scoring for the Falcons. The Red Devils finished the first quarter with three straight three pointers to give Dickinson a 15-12 lead at the end of the first.
 
Second Quarter
The Red Devils started the second with a 10-0 run before Hope Cook broke the run with a three to put Dickinson up 25-15 just three minutes into the second. Dickinson then went on a 9-4 run in the next to increase their lead to 15 with four minutes remaining in the half. Cook and Liv Monturo each scored a basket for the Falcons during the stretch. The Red Devils outscored the Falcons 6-5 in the final four minutes of the half, with Brooke Fenchel scoring three points off free throws to give the Red Devils a 40-24 lead at the break.
 
Third Quarter
The Red Devils opened the third with a 10-2 run to increase their lead to 51-26 with just under seven minutes remaining in the third. The Red Devils outscored the Falcons 8-6 in the next three and a half minutes, with April Kauffeldt scoring four points and Liv Monturo adding two points during the stretch. After four straight points from the Red Devils, Kauffeldt scored four straight points of her own to match the Red Devils scoring to put the score at 65-36 entering the final quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth with a 10-0 run in the first two minutes to reduce the Red Devils lead to 19. Maddy Gassman led the Falcons during the run with four points. Both teams then spent the next five minutes scoring five points each. Liv Monturo totaled four points, and Brooke Fenchel added a point for the Falcons during the stretch. The Red Devils outscored the Falcons by two in the final two minutes with April Kauffeldt scoring all four points to close out the game with the Red Devils earning the 78-57 win.

Liv Monturo led the Falcons with 20 points and five rebounds. April Kauffeldt posted a career-high 12 point and six rebounds. Hope Cook added nine points and three assists. Charlotte Milanesi also tallied four points and four assists. The Falcons shot 43.1 percent from the field and 8.3 percent from behind the arc. The Red Devils shot 49.2 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from three.
