No. 4 Women's Soccer Fly Past Blazers

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday evening, the fourth-ranked Messiah Women's Soccer team finished the regular season with a convincing 3-0 win over the Blazers of Hood College on Senior Day. The Falcons pressured the Blazers early, scoring in the sixth minute after Addi Martin picked off an errant pass and slotted a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner. Messiah maintained possession but couldn't find another goal before the halftime whistle. The Falcons came out of the break on the front foot, drawing a foul on the edge of the box in the 57th minute. Hannah Adair tapped the ball to Brittany Laird who fired a shot into the top left corner to double the Falcons lead. Messiah would add a third goal just minutes later, when in the 62nd minute Alayna Williams played a through ball to Hannah Adair, who rounded the keeper and put the ball into the back of the net, capping off a 3-0 victory.
 
Up next, the Falcons began the MAC Commonwealth Playoffs when the Eastern Eagles travel to Grantham on Tuesday, November 4, at 6:00 p.m.
 
First Half
The Falcons started the game on the attack and looked to break the tie in the sixth minute. Addi Martin stole a pass intended for a Hood defender, and started dribbling towards the goal. Martin then ripped a shot past the Hood goalkeeper to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons continued the pressure with two straight shots on goal from Hannah Adair, but each shot was saved by the Blazers' goalkeeper and game remained 1-0. The Falcons did not add another shot on goal in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the half.
 
Second Half
In the 52nd minute, the Falcons looked for some insurance with a shot from Hannah Adair, but the Blazers' goalkeeper made the save to keep with the Falcons lead at one. The Falcons had another great chance in the 56th minute. Alayna Williams ripped a shot on goal, but a Blazers' defender made the save on the goal line to prevent the Falcons second goal of the evening. The Falcons continued on the rush and earned a free kick, just outside the box, in the 57th, minute. After a touch by Adair, Brittany Laird ripped a shot into the top-left corner to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. The Falcons continued the pressure on the Blazers' defense in the 62nd minute. Alayna Williams sent a pass inside the box to Adair. Adair made a nice touch, past the Hood goalkeeper, and she poked the ball into the back of the goal to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead. The Blazers got a shot on goal in the 79th minute, but Ellie Ockrin made the save to keep the Falcons lead at 3-0. The Falcons defense shut down the Blazers the rest of the way and earned the 3-0 win.

Hannah Adair led the Falcons with a goal and an assist. Brittany Laird and Addi Martin each added a goal. Alayna Williams tallied an assist. The Falcons totaled 26 shots with 10 shots on goal. The Blazers tallied one shot on goal. The Falcons earned all nine corner kicks in the game. Ava Wert earned the win in goal for the Falcons. Ellie Ockrin earned time in goal for the Falcons and made one save.
