READING, Pa, - The Messiah Women's Volleyball wrapped up the MAC Commonwealth regular season tonight, defeating Alvernia University in four sets (21-25, 25-9, 25-16, 25-23).
In set one, Alvernia took a quick lead, holding onto it to win the set. Messiah responded well, taking the second set convincingly to tie the match. The Falcons used their momentum in the third set, winning to take a 2-1 lead. The fourth set was back and forth, but Messiah took it to take the match in four sets.
Makenzie Adams led Messiah with 22 kills.
Julia Bowen added 14 kills, and
Katie Quesenberry added 11 kills with four blocks.

Set One
Makenzie Adams picked up an early block and kill for Messiah, but Alvernia took a 7-2 lead.
Katie Quesenberry added two quick kills, followed by three kills from
Julia Bowen, but Alvernia held the lead, 14-7.
Leah Youtzy and
Makenzie Adams combined for a block to give Messiah some momentum. The Falcons slowly fought back, with kills from Adams,
Katie Quesenberry,
Sydney Wolfe, and
Julia Bowen getting Messiah within one, down 22-21. However, Alvernia responded well, winning the next three points to take the set.
Set Two
Sydney Wolfe grabbed a kill and block to help Messiah take a 3-0 lead.
Makenzie Adams,
Katie Quesenberry, and
Cassidy Dell all added quick kills to make it 7-1.
Julia Bowen and
Leah Youtzy got in on the action, each adding a kill, with Messiah up 10-5.
Sydney Wolfe added two more kills and
Leah Youtzy picked up a solo block, with the lead up to 12, at 19-7.
Leah Youtzy dropped in a service ace and Wolfe added another kill to make it 21-9. The Falcons then used a four-point run to end the set, with two kills from
Katie Quesenberry and a kill and service ace from
Makenzie Adams, winning the set 25-9
Set Three
Messiah kept up the strong play to start the third set, taking a 7-1 lead after three kills from
Makenzie Adams, a double block from Adams and
Leah Youtzy, and a double block from
Katie Quesenberry and
Sydney Wolfe.
Makenzie Adams,
Julia Bowen, and
Leah Youtzy all kept the offense flowing, grabbing kills to extend the lead, followed by a
Claire Marzolino service ace, making it 13-5. Bowen, Youtzy, and Adams each added another kill, with the lead up to 11, at 20-9.
Julia Bowen picked up three more kills and
Makenzie Adams added the final kill to take the set, 25-16.
Set Four
Three kills from
Makenzie Adams gave Messiah a quick 5-2 lead.
Julia Bowen added two kills, with Messiah still up by three, 8-5.
Leah Youtzy added a kill,
Katie Quesenberry picked up a solo block, and
Makenzie Adams added three more kills to extend the lead to five, at 13-8.
Leah Youtzy picked up two kills and
Hannah MacCartney added a kill, with the lead up to six, at 17-11. Alvernia responded with a six-point run, tying the set 17-17.
Makenzie Adams added two more kills, and
Katie Quesenberry added a kill as the teams traded points, with Messiah up 22-21. Messiah won two straight points to get a match point, but Alvernia responded with two points to make it 24-23, Messiah.
Julia Bowen then got the final kill, with Messiah winning the set, 25-23, and the match in four sets.
