GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University men's lacrosse team fell to the fourteenth-ranked Garnet of Swarthmore College, 20-8. The Garnet opened the game strong, outscoring the Falcons, 5-1 in the first quarter. The Garnet continued their strong start, outscoring the Falcons by six in the second quarter to take a 12-2 lead into the break. The Falcons did not give up in the second half, but the Garnet outscored the Falcons by one in the final two quarters to earn the 20-8 win.
Owen Hammel led the Falcons with two goals.
Up next, the Falcons host the Diplomats of Franklin and Marshall on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m.
First Quarter
The Garnet started the game strong with a goal in the first minute and another with just over nine minutes remaining in the first to take a 2-0 lead. The Falcons broke into the score column with a goal from
Quentin Davis to reduce the Garnet lead to one with 7:20 remaining in the first. The Garnet ended the first with three straight goals to take a 5-1 lead into the second quarter.
Second Quarter
The Garnet scored the first seven goals of the second quarter to extend their lead to 12-1.
Lucas Geissler broke the Garnet run with a goal with 1:29 remaining the first to reduce the Garnet lead to 12-2 headed into the break.
Third Quarter
The Garnet opened the third with five straight goals to extend their lead to 17-2. The Falcons though did not give up and scored four straight goals to end the third to reduce the Garnet lead to 17-6 headed into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth a goal from
Owen Hammel in the first minute. The Garnet scored two straight goals, before
Michael Cook added a goal from
Walker Penchansky for the final goal for the Falcons on the afternoon. The Garnet added one more goal to end the scoring and put the final score at 20-8.
