Baseball Falls to No. 6 Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. – On Thursday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team dropped a single game to the sixth-ranked Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University, The Blue Jays opened the game with three solo home runs in the first two innings to take a 3-0 lead. The Blue Jays added a run in the sixth and four in the seventh to extend their lead to 8-0. The Falcons still fought in the top of ninth scoring two runs, but the Blue Jays held on to earn the 8-2 win. Dustin Isanogle led the Falcons with two hits. Jarrett Gordon tallied a hit and an RBI. Isaiah Parido and Drew Hurst each hit a double. Dylan Beard also added an RBI.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Carlisle, Pa. to take on the Red Devils of Dickinson College on Tuesday, March 4 at 3:00 p.m.
 
No. 6 Johns Hopkins 8, Messiah 2
After the Blue Jays worked around a Drew Hurst double, their offense hit two solo home runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
 
After the Falcons went down in order in the top of the second, the Blue Jays added another run on their third solo home run of the game to take a 3-0 lead.
 
The Falcons added a double from Isaiah Parido in the third and Dustin Isanogle tallied a single in the fourth, but the Falcons could not bring them in to score and the game remained 3-0.
 
The Blue Jays broke the scoreless inning streak in the bottom of the sixth with a run on an RBI ground out to increase the Blue Jays lead to 4-0.
 
Dustin Isanogle added another single in the top of the seventh and stole second, but the Falcons could not bring him home and the Blue Jays kept their four-run lead. The Blue Jays poured on four runs in the bottom of the seventh on three hits and a walk to extend their lead to 8-0.
 
After a scoreless eighth, the Falcons looked for a late rally in the top of the ninth. Drew Hurst led of the inning with a walk and after he advanced on a wild pitch, Evan Wagaman reached first on a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. The runners advanced on another wild pitch and the Dylan Beard hit a sacrifice fly to put the Falcons on the board. After another walk, this time by Dustin Isanogle, Jarrett Gordon hit an RBI single to reduce the Blue Jays lead to 8-2. The Blue Jays though got the next two Falcons to strikeout, and they held on to win 8-2.

Dustin Isanogle led the Falcons with two hits. Jarrett Gordon tallied a hit and an RBI. Isaiah Parido and Drew Hurst each hit a double. Dylan Beard also added an RBI. Jason Long started for the Falcons, pitching four innings, allowing three runs, on four hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. Julian Butler pitcher a scoreless frame, allowing a hit and a walk.
