Messiah Baseball Downs Lions Twice, Sweeps Season Series

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team took two games from the Lions of Albright College to sweep the season series.
In game one, the Falcons scored three runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Falcons poured on eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull away from the Lions. The Falcons added a run in the fifth and the sixth to earn the 13-0 win. Dylan Beard and Drew Hurst each totaled two hits and two RBIs. Isaiah Parido added a hit and two RBIs. Carter Reid hit a solo home run. Christian Foltz threw five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and struck out eight batters.
In game two, the Lions took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second. The Falcons though responded with three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead. The Lions kept battling scoring a run in the top of the third to reduce the Falcons lead to one. The Lions then tied the game in the top of the fifth with a run, but the Falcons responded with two in the bottom of the fifth to take back the lead. The Falcons added some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to take a 7-3 lead. The Lions scored a run in the top of the ninth, but the Falcons closed the door and earned the 7-4 win. Isaiah Parido and Evan Wagaman led the Falcons with two hits each, including a solo home run. Jarrett Gordon added a hit and two RBIs. Zachary Harris earned the win on the mount with a quality start, going six innings, allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts.
 
Up next, the Falcons host the Bullets of Gettysburg College on Tuesday, March 25 at 3:30 p.m.

Game One: Messiah 13, Albright 0
After the game remained scoreless through two and half innings, the Falcons looked to break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third. David Martinez led off the inning with a walk and then stole second. Jarrett Gordon then reached first on an error by the Lions short stop to put runners on the corners with no outs. Isaiah Parido then ripped a two-RBI triple down the right field line to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. After a fly out, Drew Hurst hit an RBI single to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead through three innings.
 
After Cristian Foltz through another scoreless inning in the top of the fourth, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Luke Ott led off the inning with a walk and after a field pickoff attempt, Ott advanced to third. Nick Moyer then walked and stole second to put runners on second and third with no outs. After a Dustin Isanogle walk loaded the bases, David Martinez hit an RBI single to right to push the Falcons lead to four. Jarrett Gordon then scored two runners after an error by the center fielder to give the Falcons a 6-0 lead. After a balk and then a hit by pitch, Dylan Beard hit a two-RBI double to take a 8-0 lead. Drew Hurst then scored a run on another Lions error and Evan Wagaman hit an RBI single to push the Falcons lead to 10. Nick Moyer brought in the final run of the inning on an RBI single to give the Falcons a comfortable 11-0 lead.
 
The Falcons added a run in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run from Carter Reid and a run in the bottom of the sixth on a TJ May RBI double to give the Falcons the 13-0 win.
 
Stats
Dylan Beard and Drew Hurst each totaled two hits and two RBIs. Isaiah Parido added a hit and two RBIs. Carter Reid hit a solo home run. Christian Foltz threw five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and struck out eight batters. Owen Hannevig and Kolten Martin each tallied a scoreless inning out of the pen for the Falcons.
 
Game Two: Messiah 7, Albright 4
After a scoreless first, the Lions got on the board first with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
The Falcons looked to answer the Lions early run in the bottom of the second. Evan Wagaman led off the inning with a solo home run to right field. Matt Luchovick then walked and Luke Ott singled to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a sac bunt and hit by pitch, Jarrett Gordon hit a two RBI single to give the Falcons the 3-1 after two innings of play.
 
The Lions answered back with a run in the top of the third to reduce the Falcons lead to one. The Lions added another run in the top of the fifth to tie the game at three.
 
With the game tied, the Falcons looked to retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Isaiah Parido led off the inning with a solo home run. Dylan Beard then hit a double down the right field line and advanced to third on a passed ball. After Evan Wagaman was hit by a pitch, he stole second and catcher made an error on the throw, scoring Beard from third to put the Falcons up two.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, the Falcons looked to add more to their lead. After a ground out, David Martinez hit a double. Martinez then scored after an error by the Lions' pitcher on a pickoff attempt at second base.
 
The Falcons kept the scoring going in the bottom of the seventh. Evan Wagaman hit a one out double.  After a Matt Luchovick single, Luke Ott hit an RBI groundout to give the Falcons a 7-3 lead.
 
The Lions added a run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly, but Julian Butler did not allow any more runs and the Falcons earned the 7-4 win.

Zachary Harris earned the win on the mount with a quality start, going six innings, allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts. Drew Dellinger continued his great season out of the bullpen for the Falcons with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
