Men’s Lacrosse Uses Dominant Overall Effort in Win Over LVC

ANNVILLE, Pa. – On Wednesday evening, the Messiah University men's lacrosse team used a dominant overall effort to defeat the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College, 17-4. The Falcons controlled the first quarter with a 5-0 lead. The Falcons then outscored the Flying Dutchmen, 4-1 in the second to take a 9-1 lead into the break. The Falcons outscored the Dutchmen again by three in the third to take a 14-3 lead into the final quarter. The Falcons put the finishing touches on the win, outscoring the Flying Dutchmen, 3-1 to earn the 17-4 win. Bobby Berg led the Falcons with six points on three goals and three assists. Owen Hammel, Quentin Davis, and Michael Cook each totaled three points. Ben Ferrell, Will Ehrhart, and Ben Antel each scored two goals.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Glenside, Pa. to take on the Knights of Arcadia University on Saturday, March 29 at 3:00 p.m.

First Quarter
The Falcons opened the game strong with goal from Ben Ferrell by Owen Hammel to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons then added another goal this time from Bobby Berg by Eric Hoover to push the Falcons lead to two midways through the first. The Falcons ended the first strong with three goals in the final three minutes. The run started with a goal from Owen Hammel and then Quentin Davis and Ben Antel each scored just six seconds apart in the final 30 seconds to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead after the first quarter.
 
Second Quarter
The Flying Dutchmen opened the second with their first goal of the game to reduce the Falcons lead to four with 11 minutes remaining in the half. Two minutes later, Will Ehrhart scored a goal from Bobby Berg to push the Falcons lead back to five. The Falcons added another goal from Quentin Davis with just under six to play in the second to give the Falcons a 7-1 lead. Michael Cook and Chris Esslinger each added goal before the end of the half to give the Falcons a commanding 9-1 lead at the break.
 
Third Quarter
The Falcons opened the second half strong with a goal from Michael Cook in the first minute to push the Falcons lead to nine. The Falcons then rattled off three straight goals from Bobby Berg, Ben Antel, and Quentin Davis to take a 13-1 lead. The Flying Dutchmen finished the third strong outscoring the Falcons 2-1 to reduce the Falcons lead to 14-3 headed into the final quarter. Will Ehrhart scored the final goal of the third for the Falcons in the last stretch.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons started the fourth strong with a goal in the first minute from Ben Ferrell to push the Falcons to 15-3. Bobby Berg then scored his third of the day from Dustin Penchansky to increase the Falcons lead to 13 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Each team scored one goal in the final 10 minutes to give the Falcons a 17-4 win. Mason Scott scored the last goal for the Falcons from Dean Gillette.
 
Stats
Bobby Berg led the Falcons with six points on three goals and three assists. Owen Hammel, Quentin Davis, and Michael Cook each totaled three points. Ben Ferrell, Will Ehrhart, and Ben Antel each scored two goals. Chris Esslinger added two points with a goal and an assist. Lucas Geissler and Grant Peffall each led the Falcons defense with two caused turnovers. Ben Antel went 17-of-20 from the faceoff X with a game-high 14 ground balls. Jourdain Algarin earned the win in the cage for the Falcons and made eight saves. Tyler Krcma also earned time in goal for the Falcons.
