Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Back-and-Forth Battle at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University men's lacrosse team fell to the Knights of Arcadia University, 7-6. The Knights started off the game with a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. The Falcons bounded back and outscored the Knights by one in the second to put the score at 5-5 at the break. Both teams continued to play great defense with each team scoring only a goal in the third to set up an exciting finish. The Knights got the lead early in the fourth, but the Falcons answered back and tied the game with five minutes remaining in the game. The Knights though scored the game-winning goal with less than three minutes remaining in the game and earned the 7-6 win. Ben Ferrell led the Falcons offense with a hat trick. Michael Cook tallied two points on a goal and an assist. Owen Hammel and Bobby Berg each added a goal. Jourdain Algarin started in the cage for the Falcons and totaled 15 saves and nine ground balls.
 
Up next, the Falcons open MAC Commonwealth play at Hood College on Saturday, April 5 at 12:00 p.m.
 
First Quarter
After five minutes of scoreless play, the Falcons got on the board with a goal from Ben Ferrell from Dean Gillette to give Messiah a 1-0 lead. The Knights quickly responded with goal just 30 second later to tie the game at one with 9:29 remaining in the first. After more great defensive play, The Knights took the lead with 1:14 remaining in the quarter to take a 2-1 lead headed into the second quarter.
 
Second Quarter
The Knights started the second quarter strong with two straight goals in the first five minute to take a 4-1 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the half. The Falcons answered back in the next three minutes, with two-straight goals from Michael Cook and Ben Ferrell to put the Falcons within one with seven minutes remaining in the half. Ben Ferrell then added his third goal of the first half to tie the game at four with six minutes remaining in the second. Both teams continued to play great defense with no goals allowed for the remaining six minutes of the half to keep the score tied at four headed into the break.
 
Third Quarter
After almost 12 minutes of scoreless lacrosse the Knights got a man-up goal to take a 5-4 lead with 3:14 remaining in the third. The Falcons though responded with a goal from Owen Hammel with 1:20 remaining in the third to tie the game at five headed into the fourth quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Knights opened the fourth strong with a goal in the first five minutes to take a 6-5 lead. The Falcons answered back with a goal from Bobby Berg to tie the game at six with five minutes remaining. The Knights then retook the lead with a goal with 2:46 remaining in the game. The Falcons had a few chances in the final minutes, but all three shots from the Falcons were saved by the Knights' goalkeeper and Arcadia earned the 7-6 win.
