Bears’ Second-Half Surge Downs Falcons

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University men's lacrosse team fell to the Bears of the United States Coast Guard Academy, 16-11. The Falcons got off to a hot start scoring five of the first six goals, but the Bears ended the first with three straight goals to reduce the Falcons lead to 5-4 at the end of the first. Each team scored three goals in the second to give the Falcons an 8-7 lead at the half. The Bears outscored the Falcons, 4-1 in the third to take a 11-9 lead headed into the final quarter. After the Falcons reduced the Bears lead to one twice, the Bears ended the game with a 4-0 run to earn the 16-11 win. Chad Teresky led the Falcons with seven points on three goals and four assists. Owen Hammel totaled four points with a hat-trick and an assist. Bobby Berg added a hat-trick.
 
Up next, the Falcons host the Seahawks of St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m.

First Quarter
The Falcons opened the game strong with four straight goals to give Messiah a 4-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first. Chad Teresky led the Falcons with two goals during the run and Bobby Berg and Owen Hammel each added a goal. The Bears scored a goal, but the Falcons answered back with one of their own from Ben Ferrell to push their lead back to four with 6:32 remaining in the first. The Bears ended the first with a 3-0 run to reduce the Falcons lead to 5-4 after the first.
 
Second Quarter
After eight minutes of scoreless play, the Bears quickly scored three-straight goals to take a 7-5 lead with 5:56 remaining in the second. The Falcons though answered back scoring three straight goals of their own to take an 8-7 lead at the half. Bobby Berg led the Falcons with two goals during the run and Owen Hammel added another.
 
Third Quarter
The Bears opened the third with a goal in the first minute to tie the game at eight. Four minutes later, the Falcons took the lead back with a man-up goal from Owen Hammel by Chad Teresky. The Bears closed out the third with a 3-0 run to take a 11-9 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth with a goal from Chad Teresky to put the Falcons within one with 13:22 remaining in the fourth. After a Bears goal, Ben Ferrell scored a man-up goal to once again put the Falcons within one with 9:26 remaining in the game. The Bears ended the game strong scoring the final four goals to earn the 16-11 win.
 
Stats
Chad Teresky led the Falcons with seven points on three goals and four assists. Owen Hammel totaled four points with a hat-trick and an assist. Bobby Berg added a hat-trick. Ben Ferrell also added two goals. Adam Collison led the Falcons defense with two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Ben Antel won nine faceoffs and scooped up five ground balls. Jourdain Algarin started in the cage for the Falcons and made eight saves.
