Baseball Bounces Back in Game Two, Splits Doubleheader at York

YORK, Pa. – On Sunday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team split a doubleheader against MAC Commonwealth rival, York College.
In game one, the Spartans took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second and never looked back. The Spartans added four more runs, with the Falcons only scoring one run for York to earn the 8-1 win in game one. Jarrett Gordon led the Falcons with two hits and a run scored. Dylan Beard and Nick Moyer each added a hit.
In game two, the Spartans started strong once again with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Falcons though responded in the top of the third with three runs, including a two-run home run from Drew Hurst to tie the game at three. The Falcons added a run in the top of the fourth and sixth inning to give Messiah a 5-3 lead headed into the final three innings. The Falcons blew the game open with four runs in the top of the seventh, capped off by a three-run home run from Jarrett Gordon to push the Falcons lead to 9-3. The Falcons added a run in the top of the eighth to give the Falcons the 10-3 win. Isaiah Parido, Drew Hurst, Jarrett Gordon, and Luke Ott each led the Falcons with two hits. David Martinez added a hit and an RBI. Drew Dellinger earned the win out of the pen for the Falcons, pitching five innings allowing no runs, four hits, a walk, and three strikeouts.

Up next, the Falcons host the Spartans of York College for the rubber match of the season three-game series on Monday, April 14 at 3:30 p.m.

Game One: York 8, Messiah 1
After a scoreless first and top of the second the Spartans got on the board with a four-run bottom of the second to take a 4-0 lead.
 
Neither team could score a run in the third, but the Spartans added a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI triple to extend the York lead to 5-0.
 
The Falcons looked for a rally in the top of the fifth. With one out, Jarrett Gordon hit a single to center field. Nick Moyer followed the single with a double to put runners on the corner with one out. Luke Ott got the Falcons on the board with an RBI ground out to reduce the Spartans lead to 5-1.
 
The Spartans though added three runs in the in bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 8-1 lead.
 
Neither team could add a run through the final two innings and the Spartans earned the 8-1 win.
 
Stats
Jarrett Gordon led the Falcons with two hits and a run scored. Dylan Beard and Nick Moyer each added a hit. Walker Cloudt threw a scoreless inning of the pen for the Falcons with a strikeout.
 
Game Two: Messiah 10, York 3
After a scoreless first, the Spartans looked to keep the momentum going from game one and scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take an early 3-0 lead.
 
The Falcons though looked to battle back into the game in the top of the third. Luke Ott led off the inning with a double. Isaiah Parido then singled Ott home to reduce the Spartans lead to two. Drew Hurst then ripped a two-run home run to tie the game at three. Through three innings.
 
The Falcons kept the momentum going in the top of the fourth. Matt Luchovick led off the inning with a double and then Nick Moyer walked. After a flyout advanced Luchovick to third, Luke Ott hit a sacrifice fly to left field giving the Falcons a 4-3 lead.
 
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the top of the sixth. After two straight strikeouts, Nick Moyer walked. David Martinez then hit an RBI double to push the Falcons lead to 5-3.
 
With all the momentum, the Falcons looked to add some more insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Isaiah Parido led off the inning with a double. After a ground out, Evan Wagaman reached on an RBI fielder's choice to increase the Falcons lead to three. After Dylan Beard hit a single, Jarrett Gordon hit a three-run home run to extend the Falcons lead to 9-3 through seven innings.
 
The Falcons added one more run on a solo home run from Luke Ott to give the Falcons a 10-3 win.

Isaiah Parido, Drew Hurst, Jarrett Gordon, and Luke Ott each led the Falcons with two hits. David Martinez added a hit and an RBI. Hurst, Gordon, and Ott all hit home runs for the Falcons. Drew Dellinger earned the win out of the pen for the Falcons, pitching five innings allowing no runs, four hits, a walk, and three strikeouts. Jason Long earned the start, pitching four innings, allowing three runs on four hits, four walks, and six strikeouts.
