Knight’s Dominant Start Leads Falcons in Win Over Eastern

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Thursday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team used a dominant 8.1 shutout inning start from Daniel Knight to defeat the Eagles of Eastern University, 11-0. The Falcons started the game strong with some disciplined approaches at the plate to score five runs in the first inning on just one hit. The Falcons added to their lead in the third with two runs to take a 5-0 lead. The Falcons added four more runs in the final four innings, but Daniel Knight cruised through 8.1 innings on the mound with nine strikeouts before Julian Butler finished off the game. David Martinez led the Falcons with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Jarrett Gordon and Nick Moyer each tallied a hit and two RBIs. As mentioned before Daniel Knight, threw 8.1 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits, a walk, and striking out nine batters.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Trenton, N.J. at the Trenton Thunder Ballpark for games two and three of the season series against the Eagles of Eastern University on Saturday, April 19. First pitch in the first game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

Messiah 11, Eastern 0
After a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Falcons looked to get on the board in the bottom of the first. Isaiah Parido led off the game with a walk and then stole second. After a fly out, Evan Wagaman walked and then him and Parido stole second and third to give the Falcons two runners in scoring position with one out. The Falcons then loaded the bases with a Dylan Beard hit by pitch. Jarrett Gordon walked in a run and then Nick Moyer brought in a run with a hit by pitch to give the Falcons an early 2-0 lead. David Martinez then hit an RBI single to right to extend the Falcons lead to three. The Falcons added two more runs on the inning with a Luke Ott RBI walk and then a Dustin Isanogle RBI ground out to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead.
 
After two more scoreless top half's from Daniel Knight on the mound for the Falcons, Messiah looked to add to their 5-0 lead. After a leadoff fly out, David Martinez hit a double down the right field line to put a runner in scoring position with one out. Luke Ott then walked, and David Martinez stole third to put runners on the corners. Martinez then scored on the throw to second on a Luke Ott steal to give the Falcons a 6-0 lead. Ott then stole third and scored on a wild pitch a few pitches later to give the Falcons a 7-0 lead through three innings.
 
After two scoreless innings, the Falcons looked to keep building on their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Evan Wagaman led off the inning with a sharp single up the middle. Dylan Beard then ripped a single into the left center gap to put runners on the corners with one out. Jarrett Gordon then hit a single to the shortstop, scoring Wagaman and keeping runners on the corners with no outs. Beard then scored on a wild pitch and Gordon advanced to second. After Gordon stole third, Nick Moyer brought him home with an RBI infield single to give the Falcons a 10-0 lead.
 
The Falcons scored another run by Kyler Parks in the bottom of the eighth on a wild pitch, but the story of the game was Daniel Knight on the mound. Knight pitched 8.1 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits (three in the ninth), one walk, and nine strikeouts to lead the Falcons to the 11-0 win.

Daniel Knight, threw 8.1 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits, a walk, and striking out nine batters. Julian Butler came into the game in the top of the ninth and escaped a bases loaded jam with one out and ended the game with a pick off and strikeout.
