GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University men's lacrosse team fell in a MAC Commonwealth matchup to the tenth-ranked Mustangs of Stevenson University, 25-7. The Mustangs opened the game with an 8-0 first quarter run to take the early lead. The Mustangs outscored the Falcons by two in the second to take a 15-5 lead at the half. The Mustangs outscored the Falcons 10-2 in the second half to earn the 25-7 win.
Bobby Berg led the Falcons with three points on a goal and two assists.
Owen Hammel and
Michael Cook each scored two goals.
Jesse Lynch and
Ben Ferrell also added a goal each.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University on Wednesday, April 23 at 7:00 p.m.
First Quarter
The Mustangs went on an 8-0 run for the entire first quarter to take an early eight-goal lead after the first quarter.
Second Quarter
The Falcons looked to come back in the second with a
Michael Cook goal from
Brady Miller to reduce the Mustangs lead to seven. After a Mustangs goal, the Falcons scored three-straight goals from
Jesse Lynch,
Owen Hammel, and
Bobby Berg to reduce the Mustangs lead to five with 7:54 remaining in the half. The Mustangs then scored four-straight goals to end the half to take a 13-4 lead with three minutes remaining in the second. The Mustangs outscored the Falcons 2-1, with
Bobby Berg scoring the goal for the Falcons to put the Mustangs ahead 15-5 at the half.
Third Quarter
The Mustangs opened the third with 2-0 run to take a 17-5 lead with 8:35 remaining in the third. The Falcons then scored two-straight goals of their own with
Michael Cook and
Owen Hammel scoring to reduce the Mustangs lead back to 10. The Mustangs though finished the third with a 3-0 run to take a 20-7 lead into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
The Mustangs scored five goals in the fourth to earn the 25-7 win.
