Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Falcons Advance to Second Straight Conference Title Match

GRANTHAM, Pa. - On Wednesday afternoon, the Messiah women's tennis team defeated York College of Pa 4-0 to advance to their second straight MAC Commonwealth Championship. The Falcons were able to capture all three doubles courts, including a forfeited match to take the early 1-0 lead. Messiah would then take advantage of a forfeited court due to the Spartans only having five players, taking a 2-0 match lead. From that point on, the Falcons only needed two more points to win the match, they would do just that with wins from Katelyn Good and Kylie Walker

Up Next:
The Falcons will take on Albright College on Saturday, May. 3rd.

How It Happened:
Doubles:

Due to only five Spartans showing up today, York was forced to forfeit the threes court in doubles, meaning the Falcons only needed to win one of the two courts remaining. Messiah would do more than that as they went on to capture both court one and two. On court one, Kiara Bomboy / Kylie Walker defeated their opponents 6-2, while Bella Heckman / Jocelyn Valdez picked up the flawless 6-0 win on court two.

Singles:
Now leading 2-0 in the match due to a court six forfeit and winning doubles play, Messiah were just two points away from advancing to another MAC Commonwealth title match. On court five, Katelyn Good secured the third point with a sweet 6-0, 6-0 win. Than as the remaining four courts were in tightly contested matches including a forced third set on Jocelyn Valdezs court, as well as a forced third set on Kiara Bomboys court, it would be a victory from Kylie Walker to secure the final point of the match. Walker took the first set 6-1, but as the second set continued both ladies battled into a tiebreaker tied at 6-6. Then a couple of points later, Walker would pick up the tie breaking victory 7-5 to advance the Falcons forward in the tournament.

What's Up Next:
The Falcons will travel to Reading, Pa for a rematch of last seasons MAC Commonwealth Championship against the Lions of Albright College on Saturday, May. 3rd.
