Baseball Drops Midweek Matchup Against No. 7 Sea Gulls

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team fell to the seventh-ranked Sea Gulls of Salisbury University, 7-1. The Sea Gulls started strong with a 4-0 lead after the first inning. The Sea Gulls added a run in the sixth and the seventh to take a 6-0 lead headed into the final two innings. The Falcons scored a run in the bottom of the eighth, but the Sea Gulls added another in the top of the ninth and did not allow any runs in the final frame to earn the 7-1 win. Isaiah Parido led the Falcons with two doubles. Drew Hurst added a double. Evan Wagaman, Jarrett Gordon, and Luke Ott each added a hit.
 
Up next, the Falcons host the Spartans of York College on Saturday, April 12 at 3:00 p.m.
 
No. 7 Salisbury 7, Messiah 1
The Sea Gulls took an early lead after scoring four runs in the first inning on three hits and two Falcons errors.
 
The Falcons led off the bottom of the first with a double from Isaiah Parido but could not bring him home and the score remained 4-0.
 
After a scoreless top of the second, the Falcons opened the bottom of the second with a single from Evan Wagaman, but again the Sea Gulls left the lead off runner on base and the Sea Gulls kept their 4-0 lead.
 
Both starters settled into the game with Daniel Knight throwing two scoreless innings and Sawyer Sheperd adding a scoreless inning to keep the score at 4-0 through five innings.
 
The Sea Gulls added a run in the sixth and a run in the seventh to extend their lead to 8-0.
 
The Falcons looked for a late inning rally and Isaiah Parido scored a run in the bottom of the eighth on a passed ball after his second double of the game to reduce the Sea Gulls lead to 7-1.
 
The Sea Gulls added a run in the top of the ninth and shut the door in the bottom half to earn the 7-1 win.

Isaiah Parido led the Falcons with two doubles. Drew Hurst added a double. Evan Wagaman, Jarrett Gordon, and Luke Ott each added a hit. Daniel Knight earned the start pitching four innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. Trey Harper and Owen Hannevig each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen with a strikeout.
