YORK, Pa. – The Messiah Men's Track and Field team returned to York College for Day Two of the 2025 Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet on Friday, May 2. A flock of Falcons competed across the running and field events, with a first-place finish in the Decathlon for
Gavin Dunkerton and a third-place finish in the Discus Throw for
Hoyt Lechthaler highlighting the day two efforts.
The Falcons sit in fourth as a team with 47 points heading into the final day of competition on Saturday, May 3. With the projected forecast of rain late in the day, competition has been moved to a 10:00 a.m. start time.
On The Track
Senior
Josh Bauman led a squad of Falcons in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, crossing the line in a season best time of 9:59.65 to earn a sixth-place finish.
Josiah Carnwath was the next Falcon to cross the line, finishing in a personal best time of 10:20.55.
Gus Rouland and
Nathan Seibert ran close together for much of the race and the gap decreased as the two completed their final two laps. Rouland was able to hold his advantage, finishing in 10:45.22 with Seibert close behind in 10:45.26. The final Messiah representative was
Matthew Rush, crossing in a time of 10:51.11.
The 4x100 Meter Relay team of Joshua Karyea,
Austin Grove,
Isaac Sobek, and
Dominic Lewis combined for a time of 45.48.
Sean Baxter was the lone Falcon in the 400 Meter Dash, just missing out on a spot in finals with a time of 50.32.
Joshua Karyea finished the 100 Meter Dash with a new personal best time of 11.30.
Evan Sarkett led a trio of Falcons in the 800 Meter Run prelims with a time of 1:55.27. Sarkett's time was the fourth fastest in prelims, earning him a spot in Saturday's final.
Nathan Kimmel and
Daniel Satariano also competed in the 800 Meter Run with Kimmel crossing in a time of 2:01.95 and Satariano crossing in a time of 2:03.82.
In the 400 Meter Hurdles,
Adam Hostetler earned a place in finals after crossing the line in a personal best time of 57.21.
Will Xenakis finished with a time of 58.93.
In The Field
Jacob Cramer was the lone representative for Messiah in the jumps on Friday. Cramer finished the Long Jump with a distance of 6.38 meters.
Highlighting Day Two in the field for Messiah was the Discus Throw.
Hoyt Lechthaler earned a bronze medal with a toss of 44.96 meters while
Jake Holland claimed seventh with a distance of 43.70 meters. Rounding out the group were
Luke Bosma and
Nathan Bowman who threw marks of 39.54 meters and 34.09 meters respectively.
Decathlon Day Two
The trio of
Gavin Dunkerton,
Drew Lebo, and
Jed Colyer returned to action for Day Two of the Decathlon. Dunkerton took home the gold medal with a cumulative score of 6177 points after a stellar Day Two, claiming top marks in three of the five events. Opening his day was a field leading 16.73 in the 110 Meter Hurdles that was followed by a field leading and new personal best of 35.29 meters in the Discus. Dunkerton then cleared a height of 3.80 meters in the Pole Vault before his field leading toss of 54.17 meters in the Javelin. He finished out his day with a 5:10.81 in the 1500 Meter Run to solidify his win by over 300 points.
Drew Lebo also earned a podium finish after collecting 5231 points. Lebo started his day with a 16.81 in the 110 Meter Hurdles and a new personal best of 28.82 meter throw in the Discus. Lebo then used a field leading and massive personal best 4.30 meter clearance in the Pole Vault to move his way up the standings. He finished his day with a pair of personal bests with a 29.12 meter throw in the Javelin and a time of 5:10.34 in the 1500 Meter Run to earn a fourth-place finish in the Decathlon.
The final Falcon in the Decathlon was
Jed Colyer. Colyer finished with a total score of 4802 points after opening Day Two with a 19.76 in the 110 Meter Hurdles. He then had a toss of 24.84 meters in the Discus before clearing a height of 3.50 meters in the Pole Vault. In the Javelin, Colyer registered a mark of 38.93 meters, a new personal best by 11.5 meters, before finishing the day with a 5:13.35 in the 1500 Meter Run, another personal best.
