BALTIMORE, Md. – On Wednesday evening, the eighth-ranked Messiah University Women's Soccer team defeated the fifth-ranked Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins, 1-0 on a game winning goal from
Hannah Lashley in the 83rd minute. Both teams played a strong first half with two shots on goal each, but neither team could get the ball past each team's goalkeeper and the game remained scoreless at the break. The Falcons and Blue Jays continued their even play with both teams getting one shot on goal through 82 minutes of play. The Falcons broke the scoreless tie in the 83rd minute on a
Hannah Lashley goal from
Brittany Laird to give the Falcons the 1-0 lead. The Falcons defense did not allow another shot the rest of the way and the Falcons earned the 1-0 win.

First Half
The Blue Jays started the game strong with a scoring chance in the second minute, but
Ava Wert made an early save to keep the game tied. After a couple of corner kicks for the Falcons, Messiah got their first shot on goal in the 20th minute from
Addi Martin, but the Blue Jays' goalkeeper made the save to keep the game scoreless. Each team got another shot on goal, but each goalkeeper made the save to keep the game scoreless entering halftime.
Second Half
The Blue Jays started the second half with two quick scoring opportunities in the first five minutes, but both shots were saved by
Ava Wert and the score remained tied. The Falcons got a great scoring chance with a shot from
Mia Libby in the 61st minute, but the Blue Jays' goalkeeper made a diving save and the game remained scoreless. After some back-and-forth play, the Falcons looked to take the lead in the 83rd minute. After
Mia Libby won a header in the midfield, the Falcons went on the attack.
Hannah Adair and
Brittany Laird sent passes back and forth, but
Hannah Lashley came open to the top of the box. Laird quickly passed it to Lashley and she then ripped a one-timer just above the Blue Jays' goalkeeper save attempt to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons defense did not allow another shot the rest of the way and the Falcons earned the hard fought win.
