SALISBURY, Md. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team held off a late comeback from the second-ranked Sea Gulls of Salisbury University to earn an 8-7 win. The Sea Gulls got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first. The Falcons tied the game in the top of the third with an RBI single. The Falcons took their first lead of the game on a three-run home run from
Matt Luchovick in the top of the fourth. The Falcons added two more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-1 lead. The Sea Gulls responded with a run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Falcons lead to 6-2. The Falcons extended their lead to six with two runs in the top of the eighth. The Sea Gulls then scored the next five runs before the Falcons got out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth to earn the 8-7 win.
Matt Luchovick led the Falcons with two hits, including a three-run home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored.
Isaiah Parido added two hits, including a solo home run.
Zachary Harris earned the win on the mound for the Falcons, pitching 6.1innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, two walks, and five strikeouts.
Up next, the Falcons host the Pride of Widener University on Friday, March 13 at 3:30 p.m. for the 2026 home and conference opener.

After a scoreless top of the first, the Sea Gulls got on the board first with an RBI single in the bottom of the first.
Zachary Harris though limited the damage with a strikeout and a ground out with two runners on to keep the score at 1-0.
After a scoreless second inning, the Falcons looked to tie the game in the top of the third.
Matt Luchovick led off the inning with a single up the middle.
Cristian Reyna and
Isaiah Parido then hit back-to-back singles to load the bases with no outs. After a strikeout,
Drew Hurst hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. The Sea Gulls though got out of the inning with a double play to limit the Falcons scoring.
After another scoreless inning from Harris on the mound, the Falcons looked to take their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth.
Carter Reid led off the inning with a single and after a ground out,
Brayden Burkholder hit an infield single to put runners on first and third with one out. Salisbury went to the bullpen, and
Matt Luchovick hit a three-run homer off the new pitcher to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead through four innings of play.
After a scoreless fifth and sixth, the Falcons looked to extend their lead in the top of the seventh.
Isaiah Parido led off the inning with a solo home run to push the Falcons lead to 5-1.
David Martinez and
Drew Hurst both reached base and
Nick Moyer moved them both into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.
Carter Reid then hit an RBI single to right to extend the Falcons lead to 6-1.
The Sea Gulls scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run to cut the Falcons lead to 6-2 headed into the top of the eighth.
The Falcons looked to once again add to their lead in the top of the eighth. After a strikeout to start the inning,
Matt Luchovick walked and
Cristian Reyna singled to put runners on first and second with one out. After another strikeout and a balk,
David Martinez hit a two-RBI single to right to give the Falcons an 8-2 lead.
The Sea Gulls scored a run off an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to reduce the Falcons lead to 8-3 headed into the final inning.
The Sea Gulls scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to cut the Falcons lead to one. The Sea Gulls had the bases loaded with one out, but
Devin Aponte induced a game-ending double play to give the Falcons an 8-7 win.
