Falcons Sweep Pride in Conference Opening Doubleheader

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Messiah Softball was at home today for their MAC Commonwealth Conference and home opener, taking both games 9-1. In game one, the Falcons scored in all but one inning as they rolled to a 9-1 win in six innings. Brielle Rosario had three hits and two RBIs, including a homerun and a double. Josi Tolentino had two doubles and two RBIs. Fallon Feaser added three hits, with two RBIs. In game two, the Falcons used a five run fourth inning on their way to another 9-1 win, this time in five innings. Ava Fair had three hits, three RBIs, and a stolen base. Fallon Feaser had three hits, two RBIs, and a stolen base. Brielle Rosario had three hits, including a triple, and one RBI.
 
Up next, the Falcons are back in action at home against Marymount University on Tuesday, Mar. 17, at 2:30.
 
Game One: Messiah – 9, Widener – 1 (6 inn.)
After a one-out knock in the top of the first, Widener looked to score early. With two outs, the Pride looked to steal second, but Rebekah Wiley had a great throw to get the runner at second for the final out. In the bottom half of the inning, Brielle Rosario doubled to lead things off for the Falcons. Fallon Feaser then came up with one out, punching a ball through the infield for an RBI single and advancing to second on the throw home. Allie Book singled to center, with herself and Feaser both moving into scoring position on the throw. Rebekah Wiley then sent a ball into right for a sacrifice fly, giving Messiah a 2-0 lead.
 
In the second, two straight hits gave the Pride two runners in scoring position with no outs, but Fallon Feaser got out of the jam without allowing any runs to score. Kelli Durbin doubled to start the bottom half of the inning. After moving to third, Durbin scored on an RBI single from Brielle Rosario to make it 3-0.
 
After a 1-2-3 third from Feaser, Rebekah Wiley sent a one-out triple into right field to move into scoring position. Now with two outs in the inning, Josi Tolentino came up to the plate and sent an RBI double into the outfield to extend the Falcons lead and make it 4-0.
 
After another quick inning for Feaser, Brielle Rosario walked and stole second to move into scoring position with one-out in the bottom of the fourth. Ava Fair followed with a RBI double to score Rosario, making it 5-0. Fallon Feaser then hit a double of her own to score Fair, making it 6-0 heading into the fifth.
 
Josi Tolentino hit her second double of the game in the fifth, but the Falcons failed to score in an inning for the first time.
 
Widener followed up the first scoreless inning from the Falcons with their first run, scoring one run on two hits to make it 6-1. In the bottom of the sixth, Brielle Rosario led off with a homerun hit to the deepest part of the park to get Messiah's six run lead back. Fallon Feaser then hit a one-out single which was quickly followed by an RBI double from Allie Book to make it 8-1. After Rebekah Wiley also doubled to get on base, Josi Tolentino came up and got the winning RBI on a sacrifice fly, giving the Falcons a 9-1 due to the run rule.

Game Two: Messiah – 9, Widener – 1 (5 inn.)
After a scoreless top of the first, Brielle Rosario tripled to start the bottom half for Messiah. Ava Fair grounded out to third, but Rosario scored to make it 1-0. Fallon Feaser singled, Allie Book walked, and then the pair moved into scoring position with just one out. Rebekah Wiley then grounded out to the pitcher, but Feaser scored on the play to make it 2-0.
 
Over the next few innings, Kelli Durbin kept the Pride scoreless, picking up three strikeouts.
 
Ava Fair singled and stole second to start the bottom of the third. Fallon Feaser then singled up the middle, scoring Fair to make it 3-0.
 
The Pride responded well in the top of the fourth, scoring one run on two hits to make it 3-1. Josi Tolentino reached on an error to start the bottom half of the inning, and McKenna Bunting singled to give Messiah two runners on base. Brielle Rosario then singled with one out to score Tolentino, which was followed by a two RBI single from Ava Fair to make it 6-1, Messiah. Fallon Feaser then singled through the left side, getting thrown out at second, but allowing Fair to score in the process. With the bases empty, Allie Book came up and tripled into left center. Rebekah Wiley then singled to make it 8-1.
 
After a quick top of the fifth, Ashley Bryant led off the bottom half with a pinch hit single. Brielle Rosario then singled, and Ava Fair reached first on a bunt single to load the bases. Allie Book then came up with two outs, sending a full count pitch up the middle to walk it off from the Falcons, giving them the 9-1 win.
