Falcons Cruise in Doubleheader over Mustangs, Sweep Season Series

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Sunday afternoon, the Messiah University cruised to two wins over the Mustangs of Stevenson University to earn the season series sweep.
In game one, the Falcons got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the second. After the Mustangs scored two in the top of the third, the Falcons scored eight runs in the bottom of the third to give the Falcons an 11-2 lead. The Falcons then scored three in the fourth and nine in the fifth to take a 23-2 lead headed into the sixth. The Mustangs added a run in the sixth, but the Falcons responded with two in the bottom half to earn the 25-3 win. Matt Luchovick led the Falcons with three hits, including a home run, and eight RBIs. Carter Reid and Micah Smith each tallied two hits and one RBI. Landon Mark totaled a hit and three RBIs. Christian Foltz earned the win on the mound for the Falcons, pitching five innings, allowing two runs, on five hits, one walk, and six strikeouts.
In game two, the Falcons got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Falcons then scored six runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-0 lead. After two scoreless innings, both teams scored a run in the sixth to put the score at 9-1.  The Mustangs added a run in the seventh, but the Falcons did not allow another run and the Falcons earned the 9-2 win. Isaiah Parido led the Falcons with two hits, including a two-run home run, and two RBIs. Drew Hurst and Nick Moyer each totaled two hits and an RBI. Sawyer Shepherd earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings, allowing one run on five hits and seven strikeouts.

Game One: Messiah 25, Stevenson 3
After a scoreless first and top of the second, the Falcons looked to take a lead in the bottom of the second. David Martinez walked and the Carter Reid singled to short to put runners on first and second with no outs. After the two runners stole second and third, Nick Moyer walked to load the bases. Matt Luchovick then hit a bases clearing double to left center to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead after the bottom of the first.
 
The Mustangs responded with two runs in the top of the third to cut the Falcons lead to one headed into the bottom of the third.
 
The Falcons looked to answer the two-run inning from the Mustangs in the bottom of the third. Cristian Reyna led off the inning reaching on a hit by pitch and then Drew Hurst and David Martinez walked to load the bases with no outs. Carter Reid then brought in a run with a hit by pitch and Nick Moyer brough in a run with a walk to push the Falcons lead back to three. Matt Luchovick then hit a two-RBI double to increase the Falcons lead to 7-2. After a flyout, Landon Mark hit a two-RBI single to give the Falcons a seven-run lead. Cristian Reyna and Drew Hurst capped off the inning with an RBI double each to give the Falcons an 11-2 lead through three innings.
 
After Christian Foltz threw another scoreless frame in the top of the fourth, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the bottom half. The Falcons added three runs on a Landon Mark sacrifice fly and a two-RBI single from Isaiah Parido to give the Falcons a 14-2 lead.
 
The Falcons continued to swing hot bats in the bottom of the fifth. Hudson Rue singled to left to open the inning. After a ground out, Brayden Burkholder walked and then Micah Smith hit an RBI double to give the Falcons a 13-run lead. Matt Luchovick then hit a three-run home run to left-center to push the Falcons lead to 18-3. The Falcons added five more runs in the inning on an RBI single from Kyler Parks, a two-RBI triple from Brody Travagline, and a two-run home run from Isaac Ulrich to give the Falcons a 23-2 lead through five innings.
 
After the Mustangs scored a run in the top of the sixth, the Falcons added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth off an error by the Mustangs second basemen to give the Falcons a 25-3 lead.
 
John Ott threw a scoreless seventh to give the Falcons a 25-3 win in game one of the doubleheader.

Matt Luchovick led the Falcons with three hits, including a home run, and eight RBIs. Carter Reid and Micah Smith each tallied two hits and one RBI. Landon Mark totaled a hit and three RBIs. Isaiah Parido, Brody Travagline, and Isaac Ulrich each added a hit and two RBIs. Christian Foltz earned the win on the mound for the Falcons, pitching five innings, allowing two runs, on five hits, one walk, and six strikeouts. John Ott added a scoreless frame for the Falcons out of the pen.
 
Game Two: Messiah 9, Stevenson 2
After two scoreless innings from Sawyer Shepherd, the Falcons looked to get on the board in the bottom of the second. With one out, Landon Mark singled to right to give the Falcons a base runner. After a pop out, Isaiah Parido hit a two-run home run to right center to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
 
The Falcons looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the third. Drew Hurst led off the inning with a no-doubt home run to right to push the Falcons lead to three. After a David Martinez double and an infield single from Carter Reid, Nick Moyer hit an RBI double down the left-field line to push the Falcons lead to 4-0. After Matt Luchovick reached on an error and Connor Voelksen hit a two-RBI single to take a 6-0 lead. Luchovick scored off a throwing error from the Mustangs' catcher and Cristian Reyna hit an RBI single to give the Falcons an 8-0 through three innings.
 
After two scoreless innings the Mustangs added a run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run to reduce the Falcons lead to 8-1.
 
The Falcons responded in the bottom of the sixth after Isaiah Parido hit a leadoff double and advanced on a wild pitch, Cristian Reyna hit an RBI ground out to give the Falcons a 9-1 lead.
 
The Mustangs added a run in the top of the seventh on a passed ball to reduce the Falcons lead to 9-2.
 
The Falcons did not allow a run in the final two innings to earn the 9-2 win.
