No. 5 Falcons Tame Mustangs on Wednesday Night

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 5 Falcons traveled to Stevenson University for a midweek game against the Mustangs. The Falcons earned the 3-0 conference sweep with set scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-16. Alex Kagoro led the Falcons with 21 kills, three service aces, and seven digs. Jake Eby tallied eight kills while adding three blocks. Todd Snyder and Tyler McConnell each notched seven kills with Snyder adding a pair of service aces and McConnell adding three blocks and six digs. Cooper Henseler dished out 38 assists. The Falcons hit .537, with just seven errors on 80 attempts while totaling 50 kills.

Messiah returns to action on Wednesday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. when they host the Knights of Arcadia University on Jordan Court in Hitchcock Arena in the final conference matchup of the regular season.

First Set
The Falcons tallied the first point of the game with Cooper Henseler connecting with Todd Snyder for a kill. Henseler connected with Alex Kagoro for a pair of kills before Kagoro found Jake Eby for a kill and 4-2 lead. A kill for Kagoro and block from Tyler Good and Jake Eby brought the score to 6-4 in favor of the Falcons. Eby and Snyder tallied kills before Kagoro tallied a pair from Henseler and Aidan Dunwoody to extend the lead to 10-7. A pair of kills for Alex Kagoro and one for Jake Eby gave the Falcons a 14-10 lead, causing Stevenson to call a timeout. The Falcons tallied three with an error from the Mustangs and a pair of kills from Alex Kagoro to extend to a 17-10 lead. Tyler McConnell tallied a kill and Tyler Good found Kagoro for a kill for the 20-14 lead. Cooper Henseler connected with Alex Kagoro for a kill before Kagoro tallied a pair of service aces to take a 24-16 lead, forcing the second Mustangs' timeout. A kill for Tyler Good gave the Falcons a 25-16 set one win and the 1-0 lead in the match.

Second Set
Cooper Henseler connected with Alex Kagoro and Todd Snyder for kills before Snyder notched a service ace to give the Falcons a 3-2 lead. Jake Eby tallied a kill before a pair of errors for the Mustangs gave Messiah a 6-4 lead. A pair of kills from Tyler McConnell and one from Kagoro led to a 9-6 lead before an ace from Henseler extended the lead to 10-6. Kagoro tallied a pair of kills with Snyder notching a service ace and the Mustangs tallying an error for a 14-9 lead. After a service error from Stevenson and a kill for Alex Kagoro from Tyler McConnell gave Messiah a 16-10 lead, Stevenson used their first timeout in the second set. The Falcons and Mustangs traded points before Eby and McConnell tallied kills before a kill for Kagoro gave Messiah a 20-14 lead. Tyler Good and Jake Eby notched kills before a kill for Cooper Henseler brought the score to 24-18 in favor of Messiah. An error for the Mustangs gave Messiah the 25-18 set two win and 2-0 match lead.

Third Set

The Falcons extended their lead to 7-1 with a pair of kills for Todd Snyder, a solo block and kill from Alex Kagoro, and a kill from Tyler Good. Jake Eby tallied a kill and Kagoro notched a service ace before a kill from Eby and block by Eby and Tyler McConnell brought the score to 12-6 in favor of Messiah. McConnell tallied a pair of kills before Henseler found Todd Snyder for a 15-7 lead, forcing a timeout for the Mustangs. Todd Snyder and Alex Kagoro tallied kills for a 17-10 lead. The score came to 20-13 with kills from Tyler Good and Kagoro. Good and McConnell each tallied kills before a kill for Stevenson brought the score to 22-16 in favor of the Falcons. The Falcons scored three straight with a block for Todd Snyder and Tyler McConnell, a Stevenson error, and a service ace for Cooper Henseler closing out the third set 25-16, giving the Falcons the 3-0 sweep.
