Offensive Outburst Fuels Falcons Sweep of Saints

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah Softball team was back in action at home today, sweeping the Saints of Marymount University. The Messiah offense was rolling all day, with an 11-run first inning leading to a 15-4 win in game one. In game two, the Falcons offense picked up right where they left, using an eight-run third inning enroute to an 11-2 victory.
 
Up next, the Falcons are back in MAC Commonwealth action at home against Hood College on Saturday, Mar. 28, at 1:00 p.m.
 
 
Game One: Messiah – 15, Marymount – 4 (5 inn.)
After a 1-2-3 top of the first in the circle from Fallon Feaser, Brielle Rosario doubled to lead off the bottom half of the inning. Feaser then helped herself out, ripping a one-out RBI single up the middle to score Rosario. Next, Allie Book and Rebekah Wiley picked up back-to-back singles to load the bases. Lucy Murphy singled through the right side, scoring two runners, and advancing into scoring position after the throw home. Josi Tolentino then drew a walk to load the bases again, and McKenna Bunting walked to score a run, making it 4-0, with the bases still loaded. Kelli Durbin grounded into a fielder's choice, but the Falcons scored another run to make it 5-0. Brielle Rosario then came up, getting her second hit of the inning, sending a 2 RBI single to center. Ava Fair singled to get on base, and Fallon Feaser added her second hit of the inning, ripping a two-run double down the left field line, making it 9-0. Allie Book then came up, providing some fireworks as she sent a two-run homerun to the deepest part of center to end the Falcons 11-run inning.
 
The Saints got one run back in the top of the second. The Falcons offense kept rolling, with Lucy Murphy adding a single and Josi Tolentino drawing a walk. Asia Harding then sent a ball into play, grounding out, but scoring a run to get the run right back, making it 12-1.
 
Marymount scored a second run on three hits in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third, Fallon Feaser sent a leadoff double to left center, followed by an RBI double from Allie Book. Rebekah Wiley sent an RBI single into right field to score Book, and then Wiley scored on a Josi Tolentino groundout, making it 15-2 heading into the fourth.
 
Maeve Hurley came in to pitch the last two inning for the Falcons, allowing two runs, seeing out a 15-4 Falcons win in five innings due to the run rule.
 
Stats
Fallon Feaser totaled four hits and three RBIs.  Allie Book tallied three hits and three RBIs, including a two-run homerun. Brielle Rosario and Lucy Murphy both added two hits and two RBIs. Rebekah Wiley had two hits and one RBI. McKenna Bunting and Ava Fair both added hits.
 
 
Game Two: Messiah – 11, Marymount – 2 (5 inn.)
Marymount's offense started strong in game two, scoring two runs on three hits. Brielle Rosario led off the bottom of the first with a single. However, even after an error and walk loaded the bases, the Falcons failed to score.
 
After a quick top of the second in the circle for Kelli Durbin, McKenna Bunting tripled to right center to start the inning for Messiah. Josi Tolentino followed with an RBI single to make it 2-1. After Brielle Rosario walked, both Rosario and Tolentino advanced a base on a passed ball, and Ava Fair slapped an RBI single to make it 2-2. With Rosario now on third, Fallon Feaser sent a fly ball in the outfield, scoring Rosario on the sacrifice fly to take the lead.
 
After another quick inning for the Falcons defense, Allie Book sent a ball to right center for a leadoff triple. Rebekah Wiley sent an RBI single up the middle to score Book, followed by Lucy Murphy and McKenna Bunting reaching on back-to-back bunt singles to load the bases. Josi Tolentino then shot a ball into left center for a base-clearing double, making it 7-2. Ava Fair was up a few batters later with two runners on, grounding out to second, but picking up an RBI as Tolentino scored. Fallon Feaser followed with an RBI single, and Allie Book doubled to score Feaser. Rebakah Wiley then singled to right field, scoring Book to make it 11-2.
 
Kelli Durbin then pitched two more scoreless innings as the Falcons held on for a 11-2 win in five innings.
 
Stats
Josi Tolentino had two hits and four RBIs. Rebekah Wiley had two hits and two RBIs. Allie Book had two extra-base hits with one RBIs. Brielle Rosario, Ava Fair, Fallon Feaser, McKenna Bunting, and Lucy Murphy all added hits for Messiah.
