Falcons Drop Two Road Games to River Hawks

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Messiah Softball team was back in action today, traveling to Selinsgrove, Pa. for a doubleheader against the Susquehanna University River Hawks. The Falcons bats struggled to get going in game one, while Susquehanna used a big fourth inning to win 6-1. In game two, the Falcons used a big third inning to take the lead, but the River Hawks battled back to take the game, 9-7.
 
Up next, the Falcons are back in conference action when Hood College comes to Grantham for a doubleheader on Thursday, Apr. 2, at 3:00 PM.
 

Game One: Messiah – 1, Susquehanna – 6
Ava Fair walked and stole a base in the top of the first, but the Falcons failed to score. Fallon Feaser followed with two scoreless innings in the circle, with teams tied 0-0 heading into the third inning.
 
After the Falcons went down in order in the top of the third, Susquehanna took the lead in the bottom half on the inning, scoring two runs on two hits.
 
Fallon Feaser tripled in the top of the fourth and scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead in half, making it 2-1, but the River Hawks scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 6-1.
 
McKenna Bunting, Fallon Feaser, and Rebekah Wiley all added hits for the Falcons in the final frames, but neither team scored as Susquehanna took game one, 6-1.
 
Stats
Fallon Feaser had two hits, including a triple, and one run scored. McKenna Bunting and Rebekah Wiley both added hits. Maeve Hurley pitched two scoreless innings in relief in the circle.
 
 
Game Two: Messiah – 0, Susquehanna – 0
Ava Fair singled to the shortstop with one out but was caught a few pitches later trying to steal second. Fallon Feaser then sent a one-out triple to left center. Allie Book singled to score Feaser, giving Messiah an early lead. However, the River Hawks took the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs on three hits.
 
After a scoreless second inning in the circle for Kelli Durbin, Fallon Feaser led off the third with a single. Feaser then moved to second after a sacrifice bunt, and then quickly stole third. Rebekah Wiley singled through the right side of the infield to score Feaser, tying the game 2-2. Mia Libby came in to pinch run, followed by a single from Lucy Murphy. Next, Josi Tolentino sent a two-RBI single through the infield to score both runners, giving Messiah a 4-2 lead. Asia Harding followed with a single, and Kelli Durbin reached on an error that scored Tolentino to make it 5-2. Ava Fair then punched an RBI single through the infield to make it 6-2, Messiah. Kelli Durbin followed the offensive surge with a 1-2-3 bottom of the third.
 
The pitchers dominated the next two innings, with the River Hawks scoring two runs in the fifth to cut the Messiah lead down to two.
 
After Fallon Feaser reached on an error, Allie Book singled to give Messiah two baserunners. Lucy Murphy then reached on an error that scored Feaser to restore the Falcons three run lead. The River Hawks bats then came alive in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 9-7 lead.
 
Susquehanna then pitched a scoreless seventh to get the win.
 
Stats
Ava Fair and Allie Book both had two hits with one RBI. Fallon Feaser added two hits. Josi Tolentino had one hit and two RBIs.
