Bats Power Falcons Past Blazers

GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Sunday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team used a strong offensive game to defeat the Blazers of Hood College, 13-3. The Falcons started the game with a run in the first and two runs in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. The Falcons added a run in the third and the fourth to extend their lead to 5-0. The Falcons pushed their lead to eight with a three-run fifth inning. The Blazers scored two in the top of the sixth, but the Falcons responded with four in the bottom half to take a 12-2 lead. Each team scored a run the rest of the way to give the Falcons the 13-3 win. Matt Luchovick led the Falcons with four hits, including two home runs, and four RBIs. Isaiah Parido totaled two hits and three RBIs. Carter Reid tallied two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Sawyer Shepherd earned the win on the mound for the Falcons, pitching five innings, allowing two hits, six walks, and two strikeouts.
 
Up next, the Falcons host the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College on Tuesday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m.
 
Messiah 13, Hood 3
After a scoreless top of the first the Falcons looked to take an early lead. Isaiah Parido, Drew Hurst, and Nick Moyer all walked to load the bases. David Martinez then was hit by a pitch to give the Falcons their first run of the game. The Blazers though got an inning ending double pay to limit the damage.
 
After another scoreless inning from Sawyer Shepherd, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the bottom of the second. Matt Luchovick led off the inning with a single to center and Brayden Burkholder walked to put runners on first and second with no outs. After Landon Mark moved the runners over with a ground out, Isaiah Parido ripped an RBI single to center to push the Falcons lead to two. After a fly out and a Drew Hurst walk, Nick Moyer reached on a walk to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.
 
The Falcons added to their lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run from Matt Luchovick.
 
The Falcons continued to look to add to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Isaiah Parido reached second to lead off the inning on an error by the Blazers second basemen. After Parido advanced to third on an error by the Blazers' pitcher, Cristian Reyna hit a sacrifice fly to right to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead through four innings.
 
The Falcons looked to continue to add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Carter Reid singled through the right side.  After a strikeout Brayden Burkholder reached on a hit by pitch to keep the inning alive. Landon Mark then ripped an RBI single, and Isaiah Parido hit a two-RBI single to give the Falcons an 8-0 lead.
 
The Blazers answered back in the top of the sixth with a two-run home run to cut the Falcons lead to 8-2.
 
The Falcons continued to add runs in the bottom of the sixth. Drew Hurst led off the inning with a solo home run. After David Martinez reached first on a hit by pitch and stole second, Carter Reid hit an RBI single to right to push the Falcons lead to eight. Matt Luchovick then hit his second home run of the day to give the Falcons a 12-2 lead.
 
The Blazers scored a run in the top of the seventh, but the Falcons added another in the bottom of the eighth on a Matt Luchovick RBI single to give the Falcons the 13-3 win.

Matt Luchovick led the Falcons with four hits, including two home runs, and four RBIs. Isaiah Parido totaled two hits and three RBIs. Carter Reid tallied two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Drew Hurst added a solo home run. Landon Mark also totaled a hit and an RBI. Sawyer Shepherd earned the win on the mound for the Falcons, pitching five innings, allowing two hits, six walks, and two strikeouts. Walker Cloudt and Trey Harper each pitched a scoreless inning out of the pen for the Falcons.
