WINCHESTER, Va. – On Thursday afternoon, the Messiah University baseball team fell to the twenty-second ranked Hornets of Shenandoah University, 14-3. The Hornets got on the board early with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Falcons responded with two runs in the top of the second to cut the Hornets lead to 3-2. After a scoreless fourth, each team scored a run in the fourth to put the game at 4-3 headed into the fifth. The Hornets scored 10 runs in the fourth to take a 14-3 lead. Neither team added a run in the remaining inning and a half and the Hornets earned the 14-3 win.
Cristian Reyna led the Falcons with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
Luke Ott totaled a hit and an RBI.
Nick Moyer reached base three times, with a hit, and a run scored.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Salisbury, Md. to take on No. 2 Salisbury University on Tuesday, March 10 at 3:30 p.m.

After a scoreless top of the first, the Hornets scored three in the bottom of the first on a three-run home run to take an early lead.
The Falcons then looked to respond in the top of the second.
Nick Moyer led off the inning with a walk and then advanced to second on an error by the Hornets pitcher.
Luke Ott then hit an RBI double to right center to put the Falcons on the board. After a lineout double play,
Matt Luchovick reached on hit by pitch to keep the inning going.
Cristian Reyna then hit an RBI triple to left center to cut the Hornets lead to 3-2 headed to the bottom of the second.
After a scoreless inning from
Daniel Knight on the mound in the bottom of the second, the Falcons looked to get back on the scoreboard in the top of the third. After a flyout,
Drew Hurst singled and then
Cristian Reyna walked to put runners on first and second with one out. After a
Nick Moyer walk to load the bases, but the Hornets got back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the jam.
After another scoreless inning from Knight in the bottom of the third, the Falcons looked to get back on the board in the top of the fourth.
Matt Luchovick led off the inning with a walk and then
Cristian Reyna hit a double down the left field line, but the Hornets threw out the Falcons runner at home to keep the one-run lead. After Reyna stole third and
Isaiah Parido reached on a walk,
David Martinez hit an RBI groundout to tie the game at three headed to the bottom of the fourth.
The Hornets though responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI groundout to give the Hornets a 4-3 lead.
After a scoreless top of the fifth, the Hornets broke the game open with a 10-run bottom of the fifth to take a 14-3 lead.
The Falcons could not mount a late rally, and the Hornets earned the 14-3 win.
