Men's Lacrosse Falls Short in Cross Conference Battle with DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Messiah Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Center Valley for a cross-conference battle with the Bulldogs of DeSales University on Friday night. Messiah was first to get on the board when Quinn Foster found Quentin Davis for the first goal of the game. The Falcons held a 3-2 lead after the first with Noah Rabolli and Bobby Berg adding goals. Messiah extended the lead to 8-5 at halftime before the Bulldogs outscored the Falcons 4-1 in the third for a 9-9 score with one quarter remaining. A goal from Foster gave the Falcons a 10-9 lead before a pair of unanswered goals for DeSales secured an 11-10 win for the Bulldogs. Quinn Foster led the Falcons with three goals and an assist. Quentin Davis and Noah Rabolli each tallied a pair of goals with Davis adding an assist. Davis and Jourdain Algarin each tallied three groundballs while Algarin collected 15 saves in goal. Caleb McHugh and Grant Peffall each tallied two caused turnovers.

The Falcons return to action on March 18 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Lebanon Valley College at the Witmer Family Lacrosse Stadium.

First Quarter
The Bulldogs earned the opening faceoff and looked to get on the board early with a shot on goal that was saved by Jourdain Algarin. After a failed clear from DeSales, Quinn Foster found Quentin Davis to put the Falcons on the board at the 13:42 mark. The Bulldogs won the faceoff and were able to score the equalizer. The Bulldogs tallied a pair of shots on goal with Algarin saving each. Brayden Kuhar missed a pair of shots before Davis missed just high. Algarin picked up a save in goal before Trey Bui found Noah Kuhar to give Messiah a 2-1 lead. An unassisted goal from Bobby Berg extended the Messiah lead to 3-1 before DeSales cut the lead a minute later. In the last four minutes, DeSales fired one last shot on goal that was saved by Algarin to maintain the 3-2 Falcons' lead.

Second Quarter
Jourdain Algarin picked up an early save in goal for the Falcons before Messiah secured a pair of quick goals, with Quentin Davis tallying an unassisted goal at 12:35 before finding Noah Rabolli for a goal just 13 seconds later. After Grant Peffall caused a turnover for the Bulldogs, Rabolli fired a shot that was saved before Bobby Berg connected with Jesse Lynch for a man-up goal to take a 6-2 lead. DeSales added three unanswered goals to cut the Messiah lead to 6-5 with 4:32 to play in the first half. Quinn Foster scored an unassisted goal before Quentin Davis fired a shot on goal that was saved. Brayden Kuhar connected with Trey Bui to give Messiah the 8-5 lead with 2:53 to play. The Bulldogs fired four shots in the next minute, unable to place one on goal. Jourdain Algarin collected one final save before the break to hold the 8-5 lead.

Third Quarter
A pair of shots for DeSales opened the second half, with the first missing wide before Jourdain Algarin saved the second. After a Falcons clear, Quinn Foster scored an unassisted goal to extend the Messiah lead to 9-5. Algarin picked up a save before the Bulldogs found the back of the net twice to bring the score to 9-7 in favor of Messiah. The Bulldogs utilized a man-up opportunity to cut the deficit to one at 9-8. With six minutes remaining, the Bulldogs notched the tying goal at 9-9. The teams traded shots with Noah Rabolli having a shot saved and Quentin Davis hitting the post before Jourdain Algarin made a save on a shot from the Bulldogs to keep the score tied 9-9 with one quarter remaining.

Fourth Quarter
The final quarter opened with back-and-forth play as Jourdain Algarin secured a save on the first shot of the quarter. At the other end of the field, Quinn Foster scored an unassisted tally to give Messiah a 10-9 lead with 12:35 to play. After five scoreless minutes, the Bulldogs once again leveled the score, 10-10 with just over seven minutes to play. Quentin Davis fired a pair of shots that just missed before DeSales regained possession and called a timeout with three minutes to play. Caleb McHugh secured a ground ball after causing a turnover, but the Falcons were unable to find the back of the net. The Bulldogs took an 11-10 lead with just over a minute remaining and were able to secure the faceoff and maintain possession to secure the win.
