YORK, Pa. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Messiah University men's lacrosse team dropped their conference opener to the eighth-ranked Spartans of York College, 15-3. The Spartans scored four goals in the first to take an early lead. The Spartans outscored the Falcons by three in the second to take a 9-2 lead at the half. The Spartans outscored the Falcons 5-1 in the third to take a 14-3 lead headed into the fourth. The Spartans outscored the Falcons 4-2 in the fourth to earn the 18-5 win.
Bobby Berg led the Falcons with three goals.
Quentin Davis totaled a goal and an assist.
Jesse Lynch added a goal.
Jourdain Algarin earned the start in the cage for the Falcons and made a career-high 24 saves.
Up next, the Falcons travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Lions of Albright College on Wednesday, April 8 at 6:00 p.m.
First Quarter
After nine minutes of scoreless play, the Spartans scored four-straight goals to close the first quarter with a 4-0 lead.
Second Quarter
The Falcons opened the second with a goal from
Bobby Berg by
Owen Hammel to cut the Spartans lead to three with just under 13 minutes to go in the half. After a quick Spartan goal, the Falcons scored of Berg's second of the game from
Quentin Davis to once again cut the Spartans lead to three with 9:24 remaining in the second. The Spartans closed the half with four-straight goals to take a 9-2 lead into the break.
Third Quarter
The Spartans opened the third with five-straight goals to take a 14-2 lead with 2:19 remaining in the third.
Jesse Lynch cut the run with a goal with just under a minute remaining in the third to cut the Spartans lead to 11 headed into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
After the Spartans opened the fourth with a goal, the Falcons answered with two-straight goals to cut the Spartans lead to 10 with 10:45 remaining in the fourth.
Bobby Berg and
Quentin Davis each scored for the Falcons during the stretch. The Spartans capped off the game with three-straight goals to earn the 18-5 win.
