Falcons Drop Two Games at Home to Lebanon Valley

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah Softball team was back in action at home today for a doubleheader against the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College, dropping both games. In game one, the Falcons took an early lead, but the Dutchmen blew the game open with a seven run fourth inning, helping them cruise to a 13-4 win. Rebekah Wiley tallied her 100th career hit with an RBI single. Allie Book and Lucy Murphy both added two hits. In game two, the teams traded runs to a 5-5 tie to send the game to extra innings, where the Dutchmen used a five-run inning to help win 10-6. Allie Book had two hits and two RBIs. Brielle Rosario added two hits with one RBI.
 
Up next, the Falcons are back in action at home against Arcadia University on Wednesday, Apr. 15, at 3:00 p.m.
 
 
Game One: Messiah – 4, Lebanon Valley – 13
After a scoreless top of the first from Fallon Feaser in the circle, Brielle Rosario got hit by a pitch to get on base to lead off the inning. Rosario stole second before Allie Book drove her home with a two-out RBI single to give the Falcons the lead.
 
Fallon Feaser kept the strong start going with a 1-2-3 top of the second. In the bottom half of the inning, Lucy Murphy got on base with an infield single. Murphy advanced to second and then to third after a sacrifice bunt from Josi Tolentino. Next, Ashley Bryant grounded out but got an RBI as Murphy came into to score to double the Falcons advantage.
 
After a scoreless third for both teams, the Dutchmen blew the game open in the fourth, scoring seven runs on five hits. Rebekah Wiley doubled in the bottom of the inning for her 100th career hit, but the Falcons failed to chip away at the Lebanon Valley lead.
 
Maeve Hurley singled in the fifth, but Messiah once again couldn't add any runs, with Lebanon Valley still leading 7-2.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Allie Book singled up the middle before stealing second. Rebekah Wiley then got her second hit, scoring Book on an RBI single to make it 7-3. Lucy Murphy added her second hit of the game, but Messiah couldn't add anymore runs.
 
In the seventh, the Dutchmen had their second big inning, scoring six runs on five hits to make it 13-3.
 
In the bottom of seventh, Brielle Rosario got on base with a one-out single. Fallon Feaser then doubled to right field to score Rosario. However, the Falcons rally would come up short, as they fell 13-4.

Rebekah Wiley tallied her 100th career hit with an RBI single. Allie Book and Lucy Murphy both added two hits. Brielle Rosario, Fallon Feaser, and Maeve Hurley all added hits.
 
 
Game Two: Messiah – 6, Lebanon Valley – 10 (8 inn.)
Kelli Durbin started the game with a scoreless first in the circle, followed by a solo homerun from Fallon Feaser in the bottom half of the inning to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
 
After a scoreless second for both teams, Lebanon Valley got on the board in the third with three runs on three hits. In the bottom half of the inning, Lucy Murphy and Fallon Feaser drew back-to-back two out walks to give the Falcons two baserunners. Allie Book then delivered an RBI single to cut into the Dutchmen lead.
 
After a scoreless fourth for Lebanon Valley, Josi Tolentino singled through the left side, but the Falcons also failed to score.
 
Lebanon Valley added two runs on one hit in the fifth to extend their lead, making it 5-2. Brielle Rosario led off the bottom half of the inning with a single, quickly stealing second to move into scoring position. After two quick outs, Allie Book ripped a two-out double to right center, scoring Rosario to make it 5-3. Rebekah Wiley followed with an RBI double of her own to make it 5-4.
 
After a scoreless sixth in the circle from Kelli Durbin, she got on base with a one-out single in the bottom half of the inning. Next, Kylie Thompson pinch hit and laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Durbin into scoring position. After the sacrifice, Brielle Rosario sent an RBI-single up the middle to tie the game, 5-5.
 
Neither team scored in the seventh, sending the game to extras.
 
In the eighth, the Dutchmen scored five runs on three hits to take a 10-5 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Rebekah Wiley started on base as the ghost runner, moving to third and then scoring on a groundout from Josi Tolentino to make it 10-6. However, the Dutchmen would hold on to win and sweep the doubleheader.
