Softball Splits Two Close Games With Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, the Messiah University softball team split a pair of close games with the Eagles of Eastern University.
In game one, the Eagles opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. The Falcons answered with two runs in the top of the second to cut the Eastern lead to one. The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the second and third to take a 5-2 lead through three innings. Both starters settled into the game with Fallon Feaser throwing three scoreless innings, but the Falcons could not get a rally going and Eastern earned the 5-2 win in game one. Allie Book and Brielle Rosario led the Falcons with two hits each. Ashley Bryant tallied a hit and an RBI. Josi Tolentino added a hit.
In game two, the Falcons took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After two scoreless innings, the Falcons scored a run in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Kelli Durbin finished her complete game with a fly out to give the Falcons the 2-1 win. Allie Book and Ashley Bryant led the Falcons with a hit and an RBI. Brielle Rosario and Rebekah Wiley each totaled a hit and a run scored. Kelli Durbin pitched a complete game, allowing only one run on five hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.
 
Up next, the Falcons host the Bullets of Gettysburg College on Thursday, April 23 for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.

Game One: Eastern 5, Messiah 2
After a scoreless top of the first, the Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 3-0 lead.
 
The Falcons looked to answer back in the top of the second. Allie Book led off the inning with a single up the middle. After a strikeout, Josi Tolentino hit a single to third to put runners on first and second with one out. After a fly out, Ashley Bryant hit an RBI single to left and after a throwing error by the Eagles, Tolentino also came around to score to cut the Eagles lead to 3-2 headed to the bottom of the second.
 
The Eagles responded with a run on an RBI ground out to push their lead to 4-2 through two innings.
 
The Eagles added a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI double to give the Eagles a 5-2 lead.
 
Fallon Feaser settled into the game after the third, throwing three scoreless innings to pitch a complete game.
 
The Falcons tallied two hits the rest of the way, but could not mount a rally, and the Eagles earned the 5-2 win.

Allie Book and Brielle Rosario each led the Falcons with two hits. Ashley Bryant tallied a hit and an RBI. Josi Tolentino added a hit. Fallon Feaser pitched a complete game, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits, a walk, and two strikeouts.
 
Game Two: Messiah 2, Eastern 1
The Falcons looked to take the early lead in the top of the first. Brielle Rosario led off the game with a double to right center. After a Lucy Murphy ground out that advanced Rosario to third and a pop out, Allie Book hit an RBI single to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
 
After three scoreless innings from Kelli Durbin in the circle, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the top of the fourth. With one out, Rebekah Wiley hit a double to right center. After a lineout, Ashley Bryant hit an RBI single to right to put the Falcons up 2-0.

Durbin continued to deal in the circle, putting up three more zeros. The Eagles however, looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh. The Eagles scored a run to cut the Falcons lead to one and with two outs loaded the bases. Durbin got the final out on a fly out to right field to secure the Falcons 2-1 win.

With the win in game two, the Falcons need just one win on Saturday, April 25 against Alvernia University to clinch the top seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament.
